    Anywayy,
Went for a bit of a cruise with some friends though some twisty roads last night, apparently i make pretty sparks over bumps hahah. Think i hit something a little hard though, walked out to the car this morning to find a much bigger puddle of oil on the floor then what i previously use to get (started off as a drop or two, last week or so its been a puddle ~10cm big, this morning like ~40cm -.-) jacked it up, cleaned the sump and surely enough theres a little crack where its seeping out D: also been leaking out through the gasket and where the drain plug (which is missing most of the head now -.-) so think it might be time for a new oil pan and gasket haha. Its due for an oil change anyway.

      • indeed about 7500 kms since the last one. i think thats a decent interval, probably half of what it could be, but not insanely short either. Was gonna drive it down to brissy today, but am afraid one more hard bump and the little crack will turn into something bigger, drop the oil and leave me stranded on the highway. So i'll just ride shotgun with someone else. first time ive been passenger in a while haha

        • Progress! well actually progress would suggest im going forwards... uhh.. Update!

Little crack in sump turned into slightly larger crack

Putting some cardboard under the drip to stop it staining the floor was super effective. Kinda. Not really. My apologies parents.

          One nights worth of leaks:

Decided instead of putting 4L of oil in every day to drive it, feeling quite uneasy the whole time, it shall be on jack stands until it is fixed and ill drive the parents spare car they have sitting around at the moment after buying a new alfa.

I was thinking about just getting the crack welded up, but dont think thats a good idea anymore.

Oh, and as i was half suspecting...

Damn it. Sorry wallet. Going to be vr6less for a couple weeks til i get funds to replace all these things -.-

            • Indeed. If I could weld id probably try and make it into a shortened sump and get an r32 pump. Or get some titanium added to the bottom so it makes much more pretty sparks. hahah

I cant get over the wear around the sump plug area, where did the servere leak start from?

You could pull a fast one like Preeny and do this

I may do just that, and get an r32 pan and pump and then have the sump sitting higher then the subframe, thus making it theoretically invincible, considering unless someone has a good condition second hand pan and pump around im going to have to get new ones, and the r32 isnt that much more expensive. Ive never really looked at the motor mounts, but would i have to drill holes through some hock pucks (can you get hockey pucks at like sports stores for cheap? hockey must be the one sport i do not know reasonably well haha) and get longer bolts or something, or is it even simpler then that?

Also does anyone know if the mk4 sump and pump are the same as the mk5? the whole r32 sump/pump upgrade confuses me a little, it seems the part numbers i found are for the mk5 parts, but the mk4 ones are a little cheaper so if theyd work ill go with that.

You should see the plug haha, it has 3.5 sides now, which actually made getting it out the drain the remaining couple liters of oil not as easy as it would have been had there been something a socket would go around.

I would just patch it up, but the whole pan is pretty dinged up and i think its actually quite bent in places, and itll surely break again cuasing more damage. Also the pump is broken and i think that will need replacing. The massive crack in the pump explains why the oil light was coming on around hard corners/steep hills :/ i hope no serious damage has been done, although i doubt it could have as it would never have lost pressure for more then a couple seconds.

                      That's the real bummer.
I noticed the strainer on the (broken) oil pick up tube, is squeaky clean though, a positive sign for an engine of that age

It's actually a lot more work than that haha. Raising the engine will mean you alter the height at which your extractors sit and it might cause some clearance issues... do a search on vortex, I'm sure there have been a few people that has done it, but I'm not exactly sure on the process.

From what I've read on the tex it seems quite easy, didnt even think about extractors or any of that though. It would also bring my already self notching axles closer to the chassis. Still, i think raising it only like however big a hockey puck (or maybe even half) is would be alright. Logic would say to just raise the silly car a little. hahaha.

ohwell while its off the road i have a few other little things planned aswell

                          • Alright well since im not driving my car at the moment, decided it was time to fix up the horrible wheels. They always looked much nicer in photos, but in reality they were pretty scratched up and had baked on brake dust i think and such from 17 years of driving.

a little guttering and scratches and such:

a quick bit of body filler and some ugly putty primer stuff later (yes theres a little on the tyres cuase my lazy masking was fail):

                            then... a little colourr

still have to tidy up the tyres and such, but they look much better.
