Difference between a VR6 and a 2.0

So the time for me to buy my first car is approaching. The VR6 caught my eye, and have been looking out for one with low km's ect for a while now. Although after abit of reading it seems the VR6 can be VERY expensive to run, which could be a problem with the part time job.

So anyway this led me to think.. how much different is a VR6 from another mk3 golf with a 2.0 (or even smaller) engine?

Performance wise? (some actual figures would be nice)

Cost to run?

Price of parts?

Reliability?

dont be scared off by higher kms VR6's. Those engines are absolutely bullet proof if the previous owners have kept the servicing up to them

More often than not the higher Kms VR's are better because they have had all the expensive repairs done to them

I'd got the VR6 hands down!

Having had both a VR6 and a GL, I'd still go the VR6 and only if you have access to a decent mechanic and are willing to get your hands dirty...

The difference is primarily in:
Brakes: 5 stud 280/288 vs 4 stud 256

Interior: 'Recaro' sports seats with a leather steering wheel and a leather gear knob/handbrake lever.

Body: Black arches and badges on earlier models, tinted tail lights, and a different 2 slat grill.

Drivetrain: a 2.8VR6 vs. a single cam 4cyl, also comes with an 02A manual, an improvement on the 020 (not the diesel variants anyway)

Oh and servicing costs, everything has a much shorter life in a VR6 either because they are driven harder, or due to the fact that the V6 in the engine bay cooks everything in there. Parts are also more expensive in general.
