Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

$118? Where did you score that? If you don't mind me asking of course, I paid roughly $130 each for the same rotors. I've currently got a set of Ferodo GT or GP brake pads with them up front they are excellent not harsh at all and I use them for daily driving. I paid about $69 for the front brake pads.

They obviously don't have the brake pad wear sensor connections though.

I got both my discs and pads from Autobarn. I'm not sure on the heat rating of the pads but I'll have a look around and come back to you.

EBC's Green are hardly a decent performance pad, especially for the dollars. We sell them as we're a premium RDA dealer, but they're seriously a last resort if nothing else is available...

For alot less money, Remsa has the same top end temp rating (650 degrees C), but with far better cold bite and rotor wear. I find EBC Green tiring to drive on as a daily pad as they're very poor when cold. The Remsa's will also come with the OEM wear sensor as standard, the majority of the time they'll actually be the OEM ones because TRW (who owns Remsa) is the OEM sensor supplier for the majority of European cars. Then there's QFM, which won't have wear sensor, but are in a league of their own with regards to compound.

Sick of paying too much for performance brake pads? Want high performance with low rotor wear?

wow $69 for front pads? I was quoted ~$105 for fronts on my Pug 206 gti from Repco.

Where is the best place to order them from? I'm talking Bendix or ebc greenstuff.

Same with dba slotted rotors, order them from Supercheap?

Order the DBA rotors from Supercheap. I ordered mine through a mate who works at Autobarn and then later found out that Supercheap could do them cheaper.

Why Bendix and EBC? I don't want to sound biased (because we do actually sell both EBC and Bendix quite regularly http://gslrallysport.com/shop/index....=index&cPath=1), but there are far better pads out there for the money...

TRW Lucas, Remsa, or QFM if available, are all far better pads than either Bendix or EBC, and generally cost alot less! We'd love to always sell the more expensive pad, but in the interest of doing what's best for the customer, there are better products on the market, for less dollars than either of those... particularly the greens!

would anyone know the weight differences between the 280x22mm setup to the bora 4motion 312 mm x 25mm? is there a day/night difference by swaping setups?

Going from the 280 to the 288mm setup, even that is supposed to be a big difference, different calipers, maybe greater pad surface I dont know

I have a 312mm conversion sitting here that was going to go on my VR6

It is the most sensible conversion without going stupid

I have had Greenstuffs before and didnt really like them, Maybe I need some QFM's

Normally easy to find calpiers and carriers form later VR6 or MK4 GTI

I have braided lines from Ecs tuning, dont know if they are legal, most people say no, but I read somewhere if they are DOT approved they are ok
