just as my car reached 196XXX i started hearing the dreaded noise from the engine. So shes now parked on the side of the road infront of a KFC where i was driving it at the time, until it can have its timing chain done.

What kind of price should i be looking at for a timing chain? i've had a quote of 1200??

thats probly a reasonable ballpark figure. If you havent done it already you should probly do the clutch whilst youre in there as well though.

Dude I like the badge that colour hahah. Do all your badges green, AND your wheels

I'm so chuffed you had the guts to do this, because I was wondering how hard it would be to shave the rest of mine (number plate recess). It's probably not something I'd jump on straight away but it's cool to see it done at home!

maybe i should do the same colour wheel nuts and lip on the wheels...green wheels would be a bit full on....

                  and hard to clean...

if you want to do it ill give you a hand...i still have part of your bumper left over but jump in quick i think i know another mk3 who wants to do the number plate too : rolleyes:

All good, ..mine are plastic and they need to be painted anyway.
                    Perfect time to smooth!

As for paint I'de get a colour code and take it to a car place, they can then match up a spray can..I have one for mine it's an exact match!

If you need a hand I can come see how you done yours, still got a week off college
Might have a crack at mine too.

Don't see the numberplate recess shaved on euro bumpers too often, interesting stuff. I take it you're planning on mounting the plate somewhere lower or to one side?

Prep it right. Sand it all down until you get to 240 grit, clean it, then wipe it over with wax and grease remover (wait for it to flash off or use a clean cloth to wipe it down). It's essential to use clean cloths all the way, try not to re-use the same cloth and don't turn it over too many times.

Let the primer sit for a day, then sand it up to 240 grit again with a block. If you see indents or any other imperfections, sand it all down back to filler/plastic, and fill that spot over. Spray with high-fill or spray putty if there are flat spots. Again, give it a day to sit. Then sand it over up to 400 grit ready for paint. That's how I do it.

And with your number-plate, please don't off-set it!
