DIY: Fitting a MKIV gearknob on your MK3

    Thanks fellas.

    I ordered the knob and boot set yesterday.

    I am very much a noob at this sort of thing so I was hoping for as much advice as possible!

        With the fast help I got I am not shocked!

        Gonna have to stay around and keep on reading as I have a lot I want to do and not a lot of money to pay for it! haha

          i finally got round to putting mine on last night, turns out it was a reasonably painless exercise.

          although, i made the mistake of getting a cheapo ebay knock off that had the mk4 base (non-elastic) but with a bit of ingenuity (a fist full of rubber bands) i managed to get the boot to fit nicely (kind of) around the base...

          no cutting was required, but gear knob sits approx 10mm higher than the stock one... no biggie.

            I'll be attempting the mod as soon as my new knob comes in !!! I'll be doing the cutting .. I'll keep you posted ..

                They're OEM parts, just manufactured in China, be sure to tighten it every few months as mine is starting to develop some play. Looks just like mine

                    yeah, i've noticed its started to deteriorate... but thats fine, it will be swapped out for a genuine r32 shifter when i can be bothered...

                      Just wondering guys, i just recieved mine today and it has the chrome bezel on the bottom which is cracked. Im just wondering if you actually see/use the chrome bezel or does it go underneath the console ?
