Hahaha, sorry mate, not doing anything tonight so I'm bored constantly refreshing pages on the computer!Originally posted by peedman View PostGo away mickey, that was supposed to be my reply first!
ps...how difficult does one think it could be to modify the old steering wheel spline to convert it to the newer one? That would open up a whole heap of opportunities.
Edit: Quick researching potentially tells me that you could take the mk3 spline off and fit the mk4 spline with its adapter to put a mk4 wheel on?Last edited by Mrk_Mickey; 21-04-2010, 09:48 PM.Mrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. Paint correction/protection specialist. PM me

From what Vortex tells me, you can fit up a MK4 wheel with a little bit of modding, doesnt look to hard actually!
Lost my bookmark to the link, have a search though

Im guessing cut and reweld the steering rack. shouldnt be too hard since the metal is pretty thick.Originally posted by Mrk_Mickey View PostHahaha, sorry mate, not doing anything tonight so I'm bored constantly refreshing pages on the computer!

Well that or the mk4 spline onto the mk3 shaft...it could be the same size according to some posts on vortex? I'm sure it would be possible a few ways; metal is awesome like that.Originally posted by peedman View PostIm guessing cut and reweld the steering rack. shouldnt be too hard since the metal is pretty thick.Mrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. This website detailed how to do the mod, but it seems to have just recently disappeared??
It didn't look too hard, from memory they put the Mk3 clock spring in and drilled a couple of wheels in the wheel, spline is the same size. There are no mods needed to the actual car meaning you can change it back to stock easy.
The other option is source a Mk3.5 wheel from overseas (I have on in the mail currently
) or also the Polo 6N2 wheels fit, along with the Lupo wheels if you like them, similar 3 spoke designs

As said before, it fitted with no modification, straight onto the standard shifter rod. The MK4 boot may not be long enough to stretch around the surround, hence why I got another leather MK3 boot and used that instead.Originally posted by proj View Postwas there any modification needed to make it fit? or did it just work? sorry for all the questions, but i really dont want to cut my shifter if i don't have too..sigpic

Pretty sure you would be able to gauge the diameter needed when you look at the gear stick shaft...
