the thing with aussie vr conversions is that there a whole lot more vr6s than g60s or seat cupras.. and not a plethora of cheap shiny fat wheels..
so it's a lot easier to do a whole wide track subframe conversion rather than just the motor... you wouldn't want 239mm front brakes with a vr6.. which is exactly what you'd get with a mk2 vr6 conversion if you only changed the motor...
the 2dr shell isn't really that much lighter than a 5 door, except it looks far sexier....
Its a full VR6 conversion. Widetrack suspension, big brakes, wiring loom, abs, mfa, cruise control, everything.
We took every wire and mechanical part out of the VR6 and put it in the 2 door.
I didnt think it would be much lighter, but it must be as it flies in comparison to all the 5 doors I have been in. Could just be a very fresh motor though.
I`ll try and weigh it if I have time.
Just drove it home in the rain! Untold wheelspin in every gear! Grin factor plus.

Its probably a combination of both as I found out today.
Took the little beast for a spin and let me tell you that I was really impressed, it's an absolute sleeper.
It's an excellent conversion, you'd think it's a factory car.
First gear is useless as anything close to full throttle amounts to total wheelspin.
Well done.
I reckon the motor must have had headwork, cams and a chip. It just pulls like a train.
Anyone know anything about the donor car? It was a charcoal grey vr6 5 door with biscuit / creme leather interior?
Got the headliner in today, its looking tidy.
Needs rego in 2 days. Typical.
I`m just driving it and grinning for the moment.

Take it to the drags or get it dynoed if your so sure . next dyno day will be held In october if your interested . A stock vr6 makes 100-105kw atws where as a chipped/cams/intake/exhuast one makes 115-120kw approx .
14.5 is still the record for a n/a vr6 in Aus

I also weighed it the other day and it was 1220 with a tabk of fuel. So probably 1180 with minimal petrol in it.
It was 980ish as a CL. Anyone know what a 5 door VR6 weighs?

mine was just over 1200 with the back seats out and a full tank of fuel. My car has a sunroof as well.
So it seems like the weight difference is negligible.
