Are these lighter than the 12v?

any mods planned at all to the engine, eventhough it'd probably be fast anyways!

thanks for that, estimated time of completion is hopefully monday.
downpipe has been done and know its about the tidying up of things.

trying to find the weight differences of these engines but its pretty hard.
considering that the 24v has double the valves means that its heavier however the use of the variable plastic intake manifold, absence of the electric water pump, and a lighter sump would suggest other wise.

could anyone shed some light on the weight differences.

also projected modifications would be, port and polish head with r32 valves , 268 cams and valve springs to match and a good tune to sum it all up.

      Quick update on this.

Parts used were Bora 24V Motor and inlet manifold
      Custom exhaust downpipe
Bora alternator bracket modified to fit the VR6 alternator, p/s pump and alternator.
Modified Mk4/3 tensioner so we can use the standard Mk3 VR6 belt.
Slightly modded subframe to give clearance for the pump.
      Bora oil cooler
      Combo Bora/VR6 coolant housing
All waterpipes mimick the VR6 setup, including the electric waterpump.
VR6 Gearbox, clutch and driveshafts are used, new parts replace the old.
Front engine mount is slightly modified.

Throttle body off a 1996/7 VR6 fits the bora manifold. As this car is a 1995 there was some wiring involved to make the later throttle body wiring behave the same as the earlier.

Hoping the standard computer can cope with running the later motor, wont give quite as much power as the bora wiring loom, but a damn sight easier.

All sensors used are VR6 ones, except for the cam angle sensor which had to be spliced in.

As it sits at the moment, needs power steering fluid, idles a bit high, so cam sensor wires may need adjusting. Some other wiring needs fixing.

      Has an oil leak

Working on the vacuum setup for the Variable intake timing

Gave it a quick go round the carpark and it was pretty hectic.

Needs the front and some more loving, but sounds beefy and pulls hard.

Guys, i finally got to take some snaps of the car now with its font-onish and it looks like it getting there, some minor hiccups are present however like any first swap like this, there is prone to be more.

Pictures show a bit of the custom downpipe, quality of the Beru leads and pretty much the whole setup.

            enjoy....

side on view relocated washer bottle

sump clearance (pretty low at factory height)

              finally driving her

              hey guys,

              just updating the post,

and the 24v golf 3 has been completed, it goes great (so linear) considering its running off the 12v ecu however a tune in the next couple of weeks since there are small flatspots low in the rev range and that short rev limiter is just annoying considering i have to shift at 6500 rpm . it has so much puff it will easily reach 7000+.

when gunning it, the car seems to love the high revs and on most occssions the rev limiter gets hit far more often with urgency and ease.(never felt that with my 12v)

and the sound it makes with a stock exhaust sounds crazy. theres a sharp whistle near redline much like a (bypass valve) when you accelerate hard and de-press the accelerator.and its linear personality just adds to the already crazy driving experience.

i might consider standalone to solve the very small low rev range flat spots ,idle ,rev limiter and completely achive full potential of the motor.

ill post pictures of the car soon.
now to upgrade rotors and pads ,get coilovers
and one hell of a detail.

thanks matt again and for you guys out there i highly recomend camden gti for your vag ride performance/maintenence.

considering this is the first 24v mk3 running on a 12v ecu its an overall success.

                            Rubber Dubby

                            hey guys,

today i requested for a mobile detailer to come to my house and get my baby back to shmick, and man did he achieve that.

the paint was so rough and uncared for that it had to be cut and polished twice to get to the live and vibrant paint work.
but now the paint and shine of the car is amazing, small scratches were easily buffed out and now i can really see how beautiful the black metallic paint is after a little elbow grease.

the engine and compartment is degreased and looks factory clean and the interior looks even better. leather was conditioned to soften it up and bring back its healthy condition and the carpet was then shampoed (the amount of black water was just unbelievable.)

overall the detail was better than expected, baby's bum smooth paint with glossy black paintwork and no scratches visible really did bring back the car to life.

I didnt think P platers can drive GTIs... but I am obviously wrong! I agree, I am loving the Mk 6 GTI more and more.. nice free plug for Heasman's as well.

WRT your VR6, I think you need a set of Bora 16" Brands Hatch rims to finish off the transplant, oh look, I have a spare set if your interested! hehe. Nice work!
