Last time I went to terrigal and back I got it to 7.1 teehee. But this isn't what is needed in this thread..have you found a figure Hawk? I'm interested to see what VW said back in the 90's about fuel consumption for our VR's

The manual puts it interestingly, offering fuel economy according to the speed your traveling at:

90km/h = 7.3 for the manual and 7.8 for the auto
120km/h = 9.0 for the manual and 9.5 for the auto
City = 12.5 for the manual and 13.8 for the auto

VW also claim that the GL in auto does 11.7 in the city

So your suggesting there is no good reason to buy a GL

I'd say the figures I got for the 98 model would be the same for all VR6's in that range, that and they are the same as above.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

My VR6 was making about 150kw atf and loved the juice.

On the freeway I'd empty the tank within 300kms @ 170km/h. In town I'd be lucky to get less than 12l/100km and driving like a granny on the highway (120km/h) saw a best of 8.8l/100km.

When I upgraded to a 328i (in 1999) and gave the VR6 to my wife, she gave it back after 2 months complaining that she couldn't afford to keep it fuelled .... I then made the stupid mistake of selling it ....

Bottom line .... a VR6 driven like it should be .... is heavy on fuel.

Hahaha, well the manual said manual does 10.5, which is actually what I get even with the way I drive, pushing it to hear the intake and to overtake traffic.
There are plenty of good reasons to buy a GL, its just... none of them apply to me right now My dad wants a GL auto, although I'm begging to think he wants a VR instead!

7.3 was my lowest on the freeway on a 10klm drive , and around the burbs sticks around 9.5 to 10.5 and thats not even getting into 4th, gear only feeling the torque in them gears
