Hi Golf Loon...Thanks a lot for your concern, the car is alright now, the cause was the ignition coil as I mentioned....

I am not sure if the list that I wrote applies to the CL 1.8 or no, I was searching the internet for similar problems, I wrote everything that can cause an engine to stall....

For the baseplate, I checked it in september once you told me about it in a reply for you in this topic...

I went to Volkswagen Camberwell in Hawthorn ( http://www.bayford.com.au/locations.html ), they should be VW specialists!...and I have told them about the ignition coil, and they confirmed several times that it was working fine!...they changed the distributor and the switch which costed me over 1500 $, they finally told me that they don't have a clue on whats going wrong with it!

Thanks again for your continued concern, the car now is fine

It does , it runs off the distributor though , if you say it doesnt have one where does the tacho get its signal from ?
