Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Can PS racks be rebuilt?

    Long time no post,

My MK2's PS rack has developed an interesting problem.
If I take the car for an 'extended' drive, the PS fluid level gets low, pump start whining.

After looking into it, the boots on the PS rack become "inflated" with oil, like a balloon.
So I guess the seal's in the rack are dead.

Any one here had luck with rebuilding VW racks? or should I just buy a new one?

I think vwheritage carry rebuild kit but it's not cheap. I've heard ppl can use a ps rack from mk3 but they need to swap the unijoint over as well.

I've had supposedly unrebuildable T4 Transporter racks done in the past. No reason why a Mk2 one couldn't be done.

Let me know if you want a spare rack. Still got one on the MK2 I'm wrecking.

        Cheers
