Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

so it has been some time since anything was done but I had a couple of weeks off and decided to do few things as I really would like to get back into it. engine bay on mk2 got resprayed, and 2l engine got washed. pulled all the loom out of mk3 as well as ac/heater box (hopefully goes in without any drama). got timing belt, clutch and few other things so it can be done before it goes back into the engine bay. next thing to do will be brake lines as I will have disks all around, and brake booster from mk3 will be utilised.

Good to see this progressing but why did you choose that motor when most people go for something with more power?

hey Paul....why not more power, well I have wrx that can get me into trouble...so hoping that this will keep me out off it.... also there is abundance of these around and they are cheap... I picked up whole mk3 for $300 running... gained front sway bar, and appart from front control arms and drive shafts (slight modification) it was all transferable...

                          quick update

the car is still going ahead and will be finished, time is the only problem.....

what you are seeing is vent system from Mk2 non aircondition being combined with mk3 aircondition vent system....mk3 vents had to be slightly modded as you can see 2 plastic nipples that were sliding into the rest of the mk3 system (photo with electric saw cutting the nipples)...

next thing is the firewall and where we will need to cut yo make space for evaporator piping to fit through....

                          other things done were:

drive shafts are back in the car
and shifter linkages inside the cabin and in the engine bay are completed...

aaaaand this is how we are looking inside the cabin and engine bay....Will be getting plate welded or something sorted to fix the hack job that was done in the fire wall...

so the next bit that was done, fuel tank and lines from mk3..... as you can see they look exactly the same, but the lid for the fuel pump looks bigger......also when you place the mk3 tank into the car, make sure you keep the rubber surrounding the fuel cap from mk2.....mk2 fuel cap rubber surrounding is kinked which is needed TO make it look like it belongs....
