Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Nope , gave up after I bent my only 6mm Allen key. Damn those top bolts are tight!!
Looks like I'll be driving down with my rattley struts still.

I lived in Toowoomba back in the late 90's

If you've got room bring the shocks with you and we'll see if we can help you out. Pretty certain I've got a 6mm socket somewhere.

Had the flu all week and hasn't gotten better.
                  Really bummed.

Anyone want my show and shine ticket?

Have been a bit slow on getting work done on the car since I moved to a house with no garage.

So today was a pretty exciting day. Kids were off at a birthday party with mum, so I had the chance to get some serious work done.

Days are never long enough, when you have time to work on the car, but i did manage to get front struts out.
rebuilt them with new strut mounts, bump stops and lowered springs and get them back in.

Was impressed to find the Boge turbos previous only had installed are in good condition for now and won't need replacing just yet.

This set up should last me until I get around to getting some decent coil overs.
                    Pleased with the lower stance!

Good work, personnally I think this is perfect in term of look and practical purpose, although a lot of young racer think it's too high

I wouldn't want to go lower as our roads are some of the worst in the state!
On the 30 minute drive home late last night, I had no rub, crash or shudder at all. This IMHO is the ideal country road set up!

BOGE turbos with Zender lowering springs with I'm guessing around a 40mm drop.

Looking good Locky, are you 3 wheeling in and out of driveways now?

You can't 3 wheel on gas shocks unless you've got a decent rear sway bar.

Ride height looks the same as mine and your roads are probably in the same condition so I agree with your setup. Mine is still too stiff on Spax gas shocks and springs when I run the 15's with 50 profile tyres so I still have the 14's on.

Where did you get the Boge Turbos?

Believe or not, the Boge's have been on there since I bought the car!
They scrub up pretty good and still no leaks.

Not bad considering they have done over 110,000 since I've had the car.
I did baby the car a lot when I was living in Brisbane- roads are a lot better up there than Northern Rivers

What is the average life for a gas strut?

I'm thinking the rears may not be as good condition given the knocking noise in the rear I can now notice ( now that the fronts are so quiet)

Ride is a bit tighter and seems to balance out better after big bumps.

Might be 3 wheeling after I do rear end.
