Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My replacement bonnet - although it's straight, has some slight rusting that I need to get on top of.
I'm taking the chance to also fix up the usual rusting under the front windscreen seal.

Golfmeup, what's that guard-thing over the front of your old bonnet?

My old beetle is a work in progress and is currently being stripped of parts so I can sand it back- a huge project that I just don't have time for now with 2 kids.
Here's a pic from years back when it was my daily driver.

Josh - I scored a mk2 car bra from the guy I bought my bonnet off.
It's actually a 2 piece - one section slips over the lip of the bonnet and the second covers the bumper with mesh across the grill.
The 2 little deflectors are to help stop stones hitting the windscreen.
Given the amount of road works up here I'm definitely keeping it on!!

Finally had some time between work and entertaining 2 kids to get stuck into the golf.

Bonnet is primed and ready for undercoat.

Also attending to a few little rust spots along the front windscreen panel.

New radiator support panel is in place.

Just need to find our pop rivet gun to reattach the bonnet release cable.

New lights arriving sometime this week.
Along with wheels, currently sitting on a truck on their way from Sydney !

Also ordered a set of new strut top mounts as mine are f'ed.

I stuck the grill on just to show progress.

That bonnet looks the best colour of the whole car.

Haha, thanks Paul I might have to keep it in primer yellow until I have time to paint it. Too many bugs at night time to spray it.

                    Some goodies arrived today!

Had a day off work due to an eye infection, so a good opportunity this afternoon to get cracking on the mk2.

Bolted on the RA's and gave them a good scrub (thanks sports racer )

Also got a coat of black on the bonnet after being patched. (I'm still wanting to put a bit of filler here and there)

Put in a set of JOM cross hairs (which arrived the same day as a set of Hella's from Bamish1000 and wiring upgrade is in place, just need to hook it into the loom.

So that's what those wheels look like when they are clean.

Starting to look good Locky. Not far to go now.

Looking a bit better now with new grill and lights.

Now just need to get by bonnet open again. Latch isn't releasing- must be out a little. Oh well- fluids are all topped up. lol
