As far as i know it is original but when i got the car is was not wired up and just placed in there as the old buyer removed the aftermarket cd player. I removed it as it was not wired in and have fitted a sony CD player sorry. Still have it thou, and will keep it.

Got the belts sorted now, all is well. The exhaust on the other hand has not been repaired.

What diameter should i go for with the new system? don't really want to go overboard as it is only a 8V but want something that helps it breath and has a decent note.

Also the extractors i found are for a LHD car, will they fit at all? the seller is unsure, and if they are close to the steering (rack?) would a heat shield keep it cool enough? dont really want to spend a good amount on a zorst system and destroy a good rack.

Can someone check weather they have a spring or some sort of retainer on the idle screw, on the throttle body? i don't seem to have one and the idle changes its self.

    Thanks

        Update:
Don't know what it is but I have had no luck with vw clutch mechanisms. First in my brothers Ibiza and now in my golf.

Yesterday after a good run in the hills the clutch cable felt a little soggy and unresponsive. Later on, while crossing the roundabout on Fullerton rd I ran out of fuel and had to stop to fill up, good news do I now know the fuel gauge actually works. After filling by the side of the road, she fired up again but would not let me select a gear with my foot almost throu the floor.

After a trailer ride home I had a look today and the securing bits that hold the end of the clutch cable in place weren't looking good. After a quick trip to upullit I got one of the rubbers off a cordoba.

Now it won't disengage the clutch so I can select a gear. I took a video of the process so if anyone has any ideas please share.

doubt it will be the linkages.. but have a look anyway.
look at the gear linkages in the engine bay, get someone to try and move the stick through the gears.
it may be catching on something... doubt it, just something else to rule out

Highly doubt it but I'll check tomorrow, when the car is off you can select gears.
Also I checked the pin behind the VW inspection cover behind the lh wheel, seems ok under operation.

I checked the linkages and they shift fine, also checked the pedal box.

              Any other ideas? Anyone?

Not saying it is but I had an issue where I couldn't engage/disengage gears while the motor was running. The clutch actuation rod had poked a hole clean through the plate that pushes on the clutch engagement fingers inside the box. I could change gears with the motor off but not when it was running.

                    Thanks guys, AUSgolfer,
How did you find that out? By seperating the box?

Yes unfortunately had to take the box out. The box didn't have to come apart but had to separate from the motor.

Yep thought so, well we spent about 4 hours trying to get the tranny out. Everything is unbolted just needs to be wiggled back and forth to get it out. We will hopefully get it out early tomorrow morning and inspect the disc and flywheels..

Well today didn't go to plan... Still haven't got the box out, I think the combination of Having every factory feature under the hood leaves very little space to breathe. I still can't believe how hard it is to work on this car, this is one of the reasons I still have my ta22...

Me and dad almost decided to just drop the subframe down.. 5 times!!

So I guess I will start early tomorrow morning and remove the aux items such as battery/washer bottle/coolant overflow/starter ect.

This is the first car we have struggled to remove the transmittion for this long.

Alright we got the box out and disassembled the clutch, can anyone see something wrong here? dad assumes its the clutch plate as it seems to be worn. The plate that activates the pressure plate dose have a hole thru it but the rod can't pass thru it.

Also i don't see how the clutch being worn can affect me not being able to engage/disengage.

So has anyone bought a clutch from germanautoparts.com? as far as i can see its the cheapest place to buy from just not sure about the postage costs.

yeah i've bought a genuine sachs clutch kit from them.
if your buying stuff from them you should think of other things you may need in the future (if money is no issue), oil filters, service equipment etc.
shipping costs aren't too bad, and i've always got the delivery within the week!!

alright so the problem is that i have punched out a "rivet" that is in the centre of the disc.

I have placed an order for a new heavy duty kit from gap.

I also orders a set of the ATE premium discs, but they are out of stock and back logged, so my alternatives are x-drilled Zimmerman or standard. I have been reading up on the quality of Zimmerman discs and have had mixed results. Has any one used them and what ate your thoughts of them?

I will be putting the car throu it's paces at mallala in mid sept so the car will se some track time and will be generally driven in a sporty fashion...

So the new semi heavy duty clutch is in and i have got the parts necessary to do the brake conversion. I blasted the callipers and discs and they look like new. I would like to install new wheel bearings but cant wait till another package arrives from gap, called a couple of places and they seem quiet expansive considering mk3 golfs are plenty around.

Painted the callipers red and still have to install the tie rod ends and do a minor service before the track day... Cant wait!

what do you guys think of these wheels?
