Starting by saying I'm not sure what's legal in your area.
But to answer your question simply would be a VR6 motor or R32 as they can be made to fit albeit with custom control.
As they say there's no replacement for displacement.
Add forced induction to that motor and you'll know the result.

If you are set on a turbo motor then as above any 1.8T from a MK4, Audi A3/4 or TT. But if money is no object what about a 2.0FSI from a MK5 GTI.

            Stock 20V Turbo 180-225 bhp
            Stock VR6 190Bhp
            Stock R32 230-240bhp
            Stock 2.0 TSI 197bhp

All of them are highly tuneable, so pick a number. There is a VR6 Turbo in Germany with 650bhp....

This is your best resource about Mk2 VR6 Mk2VR6.com • Index page

There are a couple people in this forum done VR6 conversion, just search for VR6 in Mk2 section, you'll be able to find them.

                      Nice BMW.

RWD on a Golf is possible but a big job. Not sure that it's worth it when a strong 20v turbo can run rings around worked WRX's.

Not sure why everyone keeps going on about the 20v. He's said money isn't an issue and power is.

R32/VR6 turbo..... no replacement for displacement.

PS. Most stock 20v turbos are 150hp the 185-225 are in the audis and rarer but not unattainable.

At the end of the day a 20v turbo will never match a much bigger motor once its also turbo'ed.

The 6 cylinders also weigh a lot more. Not what you want when you prefer rear wheel drive.

Keep it light and keep it nimble.

If he'd asked for a light and moderately powerful car then 20v would be the choice.
Not trying to be a smart a55, but he's asking for outright power.
Lots of Vr6 turbo'd mk2s kicking around the rest of the world, mustn't be 'that' heavy.
