Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Got a weighted rod here Jarrad, yours for the cost of postage if you cannot find one local. Or I can send it back with the boys after the DOVW.

    Gavin

EDIT Make the shift quicker your self. Take the bracket off the gearbox, the one with the ball on the bottom. If you reduce the height of it, the shift will be quicker. You can do it in a vice with a big hammer. A blowtorch for some heat helps too.

you should check out the crustyness of the coolant lines to the alternator. i flushed my system for the first time in its life about a year ago. we got about a kilo of mud out...

new bushes and weighted shift are all you need for mk2 shifting pleasure. oh also that alignment tool

( 3104 ) + mk3 weighted rod + bushes = orsm. I've heard the USRT rose jointed kits are a bit of a pain to fit. but they apparently dont wear out... ?

yeah the mk3 GL set up is definitely the cheap option. i got it as soon as it trashed my golf into a kerb... oops.

+1 the downpipe is like when an asthmatic uses their puffer. It flows great and has a nice power feel. 7kw atw apparently.

With many thanks to Pete Jones, I know have mk 3 256 brakes and a 2L downpipe.

I put the brakes & hubs on today, went without a hitch (almost) & only took about 3 hours, all using hand tools. Just need to bleed the brakes now.

As for the manifold, I'm going to try and find a cat off a bigger capacity car (ie falcon or something) that comes standard with a 2" pipe. That way it'll flow better & be a heap cheaper than buying a generic off the shelf 'highflow' cat. It already has a 2" from the cat back, I'll also get the back box swapped out, cause atm, it's much too boomy for my liking!

Also I think I've fixed up the idle issue. Just need to grab a new o-ring for the idle screw and I think that'll do it.

Also need an antenna and some central locking. & to service it soon. I'll probably buy some parts from GAP. I still havn't decided whether to just get a short shifter and new bushes, or go the whole hog and get weighted and short shifter with metal balls/joints. Will probably end up being decided by the cash.

Also found out today that I have Zender springs
