Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Thankyou.

Tried getting the front speakers out this arvo. Front right came out without too much effort, using the flat head off m pocket knife.

Front left though, those screws are in pretty tight, and I've almost shreaded one of them trying to get it out. The back one is also harder to get to because of the dash being in the way!

If I'm unable to get the screws out I guess I'll just have to cut into the bracket and replace it with a homemade job.

One good thing though, the wiring was still held together quite well on the right side, so hopefully I won't have to replace that when the new speakers go in.

Also, my Dad reckons my speedo might be out, as I was going along a road at 45 and he was telling me to slow down. Plus my friend and I tried testing a 0-100 and it was slow as, so when I get a chance I'll have to line mine up next to a friend's doing 20/60/100 or what not.

Got the speakers in this morning, even though they were only $55, they make such a difference to filling out the sound, but I still give a little bias to the rears in the settings, sounds good.

Had to cut the dash a bit to fit them in (sry Adam!), and there were still depth issues, but the cover fitted over well enough, just won't clip in at the back. There's no rattling, they are only connected by one screw I put some of the foam that I ripped out underneith the rear edges in case it rattled.

            Thanks.

This morning I've also noticed one of my front left wheel nuts is missing! I thought I tightened them up really tight, obviously not. So I'm going to head over to repco/supercheap and pick up a replacement, as well as a breaker bar so that they are all in nice and tight.

haha so much for not getting an account! Good to see you like what I've done.

I won't sell them, you can probably just have them, or work something out in exchange for coils-install.

Yep and I've still got your card on my bedside table, I'll give you a call after I get my license (booked for next tuesday!) in regards to the coilovers and those rear brakes I've got on my table downstairs.

and whens the next drive day ? mk 2 all the way !
Next drive is on the 5th I think, but not sure on attendance numbers, plus I'll be at the coast on hols. I'd be following the Dave Mack commemorative cruise for details, I'll definitely be making time for that one.

I love having a mk2, so much to do to it, just the issue of cash flow atm!

Anyone know where I can get a replacement wheel nut, the Repco dude matched mine and I went in to pick it up today, but it didn't fit over my rims.

I'll try supercheap, but otherwise where else can I try?

                      wrecking yard?

providing they're standard, most things from a BMW, audi or VW of the same era should fit.

let me know when you put those coils in (or if you need me to do them) so I can have a chat to you about those standard springs and shocks.
