Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

But the bolt is stripped (same as threaded), so it just turns even tho the allen key is in there.

edit: Antenna adapter also came inthe mail today, so now I have a fully functioning radio and stereo

edit2: Bill came for all the little things I've bought on the net. $450 Just as I put another $500 against the $4k debt today. So coilover install will wait!

I think the battery is dead, like really dead. RACQ came to charge it the other day, but then it wouldn't start a few days later. I've got it on a charger now, but low hopes atm.

What battery should I replace it with if need be? Preferably from somewhere local as well.

Unless the battery is just old and worn out. I'd do some checking first to makesure everything else is working properly. Maybe something is draining the system, or the alt is not charging properly.

Worth thinking about before you spend 200 odd bucks on a battery. imo.

Well I left a light on initially and that's what killed the battery. Then the next day racq came and said the battery was completely dead, so charged it, took it for a drive, got home, turned it off then on again and still worked.

Few days later I was fiddling with the stereo for a while, probably 10minutes, then a few days after that it didn't turn over at all.

Tried charging it this arvo and it barely turned over, so defs battery you think? How much should I be looking at spending?

edit: 22/5. Charged it for about 5hrs today and it started! So it wasn't dead yay, just a really old charger I've got here. Also found jumper leads in the cupboard that no one knew about, never used them before though. Quick overview on their proper use?

Not sure at the moment, cash flow is pretty low at the moment, but no more debt for a bit so I probably could get it done soon, and it's hard to work out a good time with Jmac, I guess I could shoot him a PM and find out when he's free..

Man if you had a rattle gun the front coilovers would take 5min in and out. It definatly not worth paying someone to do it.

I don't have much experience with changing stuff on cars, so I'm happy to pay jmac, plus he can probably tell me what needs doing while the suspension is off.

He will probably do a good job with the lowering height too, I don't even have a good jack so it's a slow process get it up and down off the stands even.

You may aswell do them while you have most of the stuff off, and labour wise it will be hardly anything cause most of its off anyway!
