Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Back in the thick of it - another Golf in the family.

After many years of "sensible" family cars, I got bitten by the old Golf bug again after helping my son buy a Mk5 TDI as his first set of wheels.

So I went on the hunt for a semi decent MK2 GTI, and after many month searching, I snapped one up almost fully restored. New paintwork, newly rebuilt engine with a 2ltr block and the 1.8 head tricked up a bit. Interior is mostly original with new carpets and a reskinned dash. Car was originally sold in NSW in 1991, so has Australian compliance plates.

Spent the last 3 months getting it ready for roadworthy with some final bits and bobs resolved. Now on Club plates

All in all a fun ride and great to be driving an old skool Golf once again!
