            • haha. no it doesn't have a really loud fan.

still rough around many edges but it's a hoot to drive. now i need to sort out the engine management. I never thought i'd get used to wanting to sit above 4000rpm.. :S

              any way

              • Beau and I took the thing down for a big test run/maiden voyage to GAF the other day. like last weekend really... He noted that the motor wanted a bit more cam retardation and that we need to sort out the fueling pronto.

As it sits it's a lot of fun to drive. A little frustrating at times because when the cam timing was like only slightly retarded ( i mean like a couple of degrees ), the 6500 hard cut was fine because it'd get on cam nice and early - by early i mean 3500...

now that's it's wound back even more, it kicks at 4200... as in start off normally, clutch fully engaged, nailed in 2nd and the wheels will spin when it gets on cam.. then hit the limiter.

strange how after all the indecisiveness, and i'm back at stock vw management. i'm thinking megasquirt is the way this summer. it just feels like the hard cut comes as peak torque comes.

                • Mega squirt could be an interesting project jay, I looked into it ages ago, and I reckon if you were willing to spend the time tuning it, you could have ripper set up! (althought it is pretty low jack sort of system, but meh, it's not a race car)

                  Keep at it bro!

                  • thanks jarred. I actually have no problems with sorting out the wiring harness or tuning the thing. I spent like 8 hours straight behind a megaquirted laptop, shotgun in brent's itb 16v rabbit. it's quite a simple and ergonomic interface. MS3 is actually also quite a powerful, high resolution ECU in the grand scheme of home tuning. I still have to

The only hesitation i have, is taking it off the road AGAIN, so i can mess around with it.

                    • those pictures definitely dont do the car justice!

But yes i agree the car still has a lot more in it with the right fueling set up. its fun punching it in first without dumping the clutch and having the tyres let go at 4k

the backs poke like an inch but i have an inch stub spacer on there so they should sit nicely.

ideas for tyres? this is a daily btw.
