its all about the RTFM mate, ill go back and redo it, refit it and check out my main jets.Originally posted by golfworx View PostYou've lost me fella's sorry.

If you've got a manual, read the section about removing & refitting the dizzy & read it carefully TWICE! Then follow the instruction's to the letter.VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

It still puzzles me why the dizzy was so far out of whack. Re do it tonight, I'll bring mine over if you need to see how the leads plug back in or something?

 EDIT:

We known the flywheel and piston 1 are "matched" ie, TDC on cyl 1 corrosponds to the mark on the fly wheel (we've check through the spark plug hole)

Is it possible that the top end (cam, valves) aren't "in time" with the bottom end? as if perhaps Josh missed a tooth when refitting the timing belt and the bottom end, is out of sync with the top end?

What about the intermediate shaft? If that's out of whack, could that explain why the dizzy was so out of whack?Last edited by Jarred; 24-07-2008, 10:05 AM.

Timing is totally out boys.Originally posted by Jarred View PostIs it possible that the top end (cam, valves) aren't "in time" with the bottom end? as if perhaps Josh missed a tooth when refitting the timing belt and the bottom end, is out of sync with the top end?

The top is probably a tooth out. Check the bottom and top timing marks. Then when they are right, take the dissy cap off and make sure the arm is pointing at the corner of the block.

Then all you have to do is put the leads on right. 1 4 3 2.

this carb had the exact same problem as im having now on Jarreds engine and that fuel pump is working perfectly!

i get the carby rebuild kit tommorow so ill let you all know what size the jets are and ill take some general photos of the condition so ill let you all know what size the jets are and ill take some general photos of the condition

and while im at it ill check all the TDC markings and make sure they are juuusssttt right! and put the dizzy in properly.VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

 ok updates!

ripped it apart and heres how it stands:

 Venturi's: 33
 Pump Jet: 40
 Main Jet: 135
 Float Weight: 26

i have a feeling the mains are too small??

also putting in the new needle and seat i think the float level is to low. hmm how can i measure this accurately before adjusting anything?VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
