Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wet Mk1

    Got a Mk1 Golf 4 Door.
When it rains... the car gets wet inside...

Water can be seen dripping from the area near the fuse box on the front passenger side, and also near the accelerator pedal on the drivers side.

Also does anyone other than VW Heritage do the door seals (top gutter and door perimeter) for a 4 door golf.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Check the drainage holes in the ends of the raintray, where the wiper motor is located.

And if the carbon canister for the fuel tank fumes is still there. Then check underneath for rust holes!

Chances are once you lift the windscreen out along with the seal there will be rust perforations in the seal mount flange,

Get in the car and have someone else apply water to the seal selectively and see where it comes in.

If there is water running thru the fusebox you have likely experienced a plethora of unbelievable electrical activity ( wipers come on with headlamps, horn etc ) check for water damage at the rear of fuse box where the plugs press into the terminals.

          Good luck
          Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
