106kw doesn't sound much, what weight are you carrying? Just wondering if my Seat Cupra with 90kw at the wheels would be competitive.

      Theyre also incredibly cheap

        bugger lost a post
anyway.. 1200 kg with 3/4 tank, it is all about maintaining corner speed and using the tyres to the most

Magna's would be 4sec faster at Phillip island for the same cash (about 12 if you counted.. But you NEVER count!) however, they are in the over 3000 class against the V8's, whileI am 2-3000 (a M3 either E30 or early 36 would kill me though) have started to do mods to fix that ITB, coil packs and cams, but the focus is on the golf, low weight is where it is at on track

To set the record straight guys, my J30 EG Muscle Hatch (see step by step build & race videos on my WJP004 You Tube channel), is the first and ONLY one in Australasia. This is probably because there are NO manuals in Oz - only automatics . I had to import my 6 speed lsd box from Canada. The small amount of extra V6 engine weight is no issue in my car at all as I have made all the bodywork forward of the windscreen out of fiberglass. The J30A4 is an all alloy motor too. Positioning is no problem either. All American mount swap kits put the intake manifold through the bonnet & the motor too far forward. However I scratch built my own brackets to use the stock Accord mounts & positioned my engine lower (no bonnet protrusion), and further back than the US kits. My V6 is aligned exactly with the Civic's suspension towers as it was with the donor Accord. My aim was obviously better handling - and I can honestly say it virtually handles exactly the same as when I had the B20B Frankenstein in it. Like I can still go flying into 180 degree turns on the dirt, flick it into a drift, and rip it out with the V6 torque. But isn't all this Honda talk on a VW website a bit profane? Hahahahaha!

The Nissan Pulsar's have 105kw~110kw at the flywheel and weight in at 1100kg with driver - so you will definitely have fun with the Cupra

Competitive? Depends what class you're running in and what else is in that class

I used the head off the B16B motor that was originally in my EG. Straight bolt on; 11:5 compression, but you gotta run at least an Apexi piggy back computer to correct the fuel ratio. Without it the engine runs way too lean to survive. A B18B head will give you 10:5 compression on a B20B. Forget the rush to a turbo. IMHO these head swaps are one of the most over looked , cheapest, reliable & easiest ways to big Honda power. Killer torque - over 300nm! The biggest difference I am finding over my beloved Frankenstein is I no longer use first gear. The effortless torque means I can just start & race everywhere only using second gear. I still run on the V6 limiter at times - but by that speed I'm usually packing it whistling between the trees! Next race for the Muscle Hatch is next weekend at Hampton near Jenolan Caves in the NSW Blue Mountains - a day/nighter. Last time I ran there was in the fun Magna... gonna be a blast!
