Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Floor pan replacement

So we finally found some rust worth getting worried about in the 77 Mk1. It's bad enough that we can poke holes through the floor haha.
My quest now is to find a reasonably priced front left/passenger side full floor pan to replace the rusted one.
I've tried ebay and VW heritage but since they're shipping from the UK the shipping cost is almost as much as the panel costs.
Can anyone recommend somewhere to try (either overseas or in Aus) that will be reasonably priced?

Also any advice on how to get the carpet up without taking out the entire dash (if that's even possible) would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

The carpet doesn't go up behind the dash, just up to it. It should pull away without affecting the dash. The centre console has to come out though, together with the gearshift surround.

When I did the floor on my old MK1 I bought a piece of metal the same thickness as the floor and bent it to shape then welded it in. It's not structural so doesn't have to have all the ridges like the original piece.

    Cheers

    Paul

If you want to buy one from VW Heritage I will buy one with you and pay half the shipping costs. I need to replace my left side as well when I get my 2door shell.

Freight from the UK may frighten you but if you look at the delivered cost I still think it is pretty reasonable for doing it right.0 It is not like you are going to find a good second hand one!

Why not start a new thread for a group buy of parts from VW Heritage. I'm pretty sure you'll get a few people wanting to get in on the action and share the delivery cost.

I actually ordered the part yesterday, sorry! I need to get onto this ASAP so that I can get the car registered.
Mk1@4Motion is going to buy a number of things himself in a few months so we didn't end up ordering together.

Making a new thread for a group buy is a really good idea though.
