Think I'll just keep them white but make them look better than they are.

The engine it has in is coded RV, and I found a link that gives you a rough idea of what the engine codes are and power output as well as years used and which cars. And I must say the RV engine is not a bad engine if I go of that but I am planning on installing the 16V 9A I have.

If there is anyone out there who can give me a bit more info on the car I will apreciate it. Would just like to get a general sense of how the car was treated but also who owned it.

The link to the engine codes:

VW Engine Codes - Club VeeDub

    Just scroll down the page.

Hmmm, the RV appears to be a Digi1 version of my JH which is CIS...

Does your mk1 have full EFI, or mechanical EFI, or Carbs?
If it's either of the last two, then I believe that the RV is actually a hybrid...

It's got a 45 DCOE 17 on it at the moment but not sure if it was carby from standard or whether they changed it or if they got it like that.

But I fear that the carby might need replacing depends on the state of the cracks in it or whether its something else that causes the fuel leak which prevents it from getting fuel to start.

Didn't get to do to much today but I did get the carby off and ripped it apart and gave everything a wash and a blow with air. Put it all back together and its back on the motor, but can't start coz I have a dead battery and it will be charging till tomorrow.

Turned the engine over and there is compression so it looks like it will turn over.

But very unhappy about the carby because the one and only crack it has is so bad, there is a small section of it that cracked all the way thru to right behind the butterflies.

Can anyone tell me how I can check if my fuel lines are connected right way around.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Went back to have a look at a few other things to see if I can get the car to turn over. Found the starter was kicking but the gears to connect to the flywheel to turn the motor was grinding really bad. Took the starter off and found that it turns a little harder by hand than what it should. Goona change the starter from my 16V over to the 8V.

Then checked the dizzy and DAMNNNN that thing is lose. Will change the 16V's dizzy over as well and see if that works. Fingers crossed I can get it starting tomorrow and just do a cruise around the block.

              Hi guys,

URGENT need for help please. I have a 020 gearbox on the RV engine in the new golf and the starter motor is shafted. Thought the engine that I have at home will have a starter motor which will fit but the shaft on that is to long so it doesn't even come close to fitting.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A STARTER MOTOR WHICH I CAN BUY/HAVE THAT WILL WORK? I am pretty confident that the starter motor is what's causing the car not to start.

Please, I really need help here. Otherwise the next best option is if someone knows the code of the starter I have to get I will then buy a new starter motor for the car if PLAN A doesn't work.

Give Nick at Volksparts a call - 0412345126. He's got over 60 MK1's at Bungendore. Most are rusty shells now but he's got lots of parts.

                Cheers

Most of the later Cabby's came with an 020 box, so should have the starter you need...

If you disassemble and clean out your old starter, you may be in luck too... (Done this a few times successfully)
Also, if it's just not engaging correctly, you may be able to transplant the solenoid from your other starter to this one...

                      This is it:

I have someone interested in buying the whole car, but if the interior is not as good as needed then I might be able to get the gear I am interested in for a very decent price picking up next saturday!!!

Thanks to ffoff I now have a starter motor but didn't have time to put it in to see if she cranks over. Will probably do that during the week. I hope I am right with the fault. But on the other hand, might have a complete S3 setup heading my way soon!!!!

Bad news - now that you're an Aussie you've decided to buy a Holden.

Good news - You're only going to drive it on weekdays and save the Golf for weekends.

                                Am I right?

OK, give us the bad news first (hope it's not too bad). That way we're left with the good news.
