I had a talk to dad and he explained it a little bit to me, and I understand the basics of the Gas setup now with the turbo.

What does the gas mixer setup look like compared to the multipoint injection?

Does anyone have pics to show and demonstrate the difference?

The gas can be plumbed into the throttle body. That's how I'm going to set up the 16v I got off you. I'll also block of the injection holes and remove all traces of the fuel injection and fuel system including the fuel tank.

I was thinking that the fuel tank can be replaced with a tank for the gas rather than putting the gas tank in the back or something.

And because of my background we only started learning about gas when we moved to Australia.

Hence I ask the questions about the GAS system, coz every little bit of info I an get will help me prevent doing things twice.

That looks like the best plan. Now just have to wait for the S3 to arrive and KaBLAM, build officially starts.

            Getting excited.

Think I should get the car to my place during the next week or so to start work and see if I can get a fair bit done before the S3 arrives.

                  Hey guys,

                  HEPL NEEDED URGENTLY!!!!!

I fitted the new starter and can hear it kick out, but it doesn't turn the motor. The old starter tried turning the engine over but didn't engage on the flywheel.

Can anyone help me with checks I can do to see why it doesn't turnover?

I have checked the motor to see if it turns over by itself with a turn at the crank and all is A-Ok there.

And this is doing my head in.

Was it a new/refurbed unit, or a second hand one?

To test if it is the solenoid or the starter coils/brushes, you can short out the 2 poles on the back of the solenoid.
If it spins, then the contacts in the back of the solenoid are either dirty or burnt out.
If it doesn't, then I'd look at the brushes of the motor...

I believe I'll be Wanniassa way at some stage this weekend if you would like a hand diagnosing this...

I would remove the starter and check using Shadows' procedure that the new starter does the throw-out process, the cog moves forward and spins.

Jumper leads work well for testing outside of the car...
But be warned, it it's working, they have so much torque that it will try very hard to leap out of your hands when applying or removing the power...

Also, it's not impossible to make one decent starter motor out of two dodgy ones either...

Looks like I migh have to try build one starter motor out of two. But I do have to try and get the case screws on the old one undone first before I can get started on that.

Ok guys and girls, here is a full update,

1st) I am still trying to get the golf started but I WILL get it started, eventually, but the important thing is that she will start.
2nd) The S3 will be here by next week between thursday or saturday. And then the real fun begins.
3rd) the golf currently has an RV 8V engine in it and I am looking at selling it because of me going to fit the 1.8T engine, does anyone have any offers on the engine and gearbox, just keep the offers real guys, but at the same time, I don't wamt to be a millionaire after selling it either and it would have to be pick up.
4th) I do have a set of doors for a 4door if anyone is interested, they do need door cards and painting but they are pretty straight.
5th) CONVERSION QUESTION: how much does the engine mounts differ from Mk1 and S3? Just curious.

                            cheers guys

                              Hey guys and girls,

                              HELP NEEDED AND VERY FAST!!!!!!!

I have rebuilt 1 starter motor out of 3 starter motors I had. Put it back in and gave it some serious power. For the first two or three times the engine turned and then she stopped. I have double checked everything and she still won't kick over.

When ever I turn the key, she also draws serious AMPS, and what I mean by serious AMPS is she draws between 100-120AMPS ACCORDING TO MY METER.

Can anyone help with what might be wrong here??? I really need help to get rid of the engine to make space for the 1.8T.

                              Cheers
