Met both Ty and Matt this past week which was good - seems like everyones got a little something on the go!
Also Matt i'm contemplating changing over to diesel...
It was great to meet you elton. As for diesel I have been looking into making biodiesel and seems viable and kinda fun but I am not ready to kiss my porfomance good bye. Mind you I did see a 2012 2.0 dsg diesel engine and gearbox pakage on gumtree going pretty cheap and my mind did wonder about how one of those in a mk1 would be
And as for those wheels im not sure on size but there 15" with 195 45. But id need skinny bolts to make them fit so at the moment im using another set I had from a previous car there 5 spoke csa wheels that are 14x7 with 185 60 and 195 60 tyres there painted white and actually suit the car quite well.
So at the moment the car is basically ready to be put on club plates I am on the look out for a club that dose there own inspections instead of a roadworthy certificate as money is tight at the moment as I still have the mx5 and got a defect and redgo and insurance is due and I need 2 new tyres so it all adds up pretty fast.
I know its not much of an update on the car but its an update none the less.
Also to note I borrowed Matthews mk1 1.8 lt as im carless ; ( so it needs some loving but I'll be getting a few thing on it sorted and be driving that for the next week or 2.
so been a long while since i have posted on this thread i have had no internet other then my phone for a long while. any how a lot has changed i'm keeping the golf and the mx5 i was only ever selling the mx5 to get a car with 5 seats so the golf has filed that spot.
a friend of mine is starting his own club and is almost though the application proses, then both the cars will be on club plates
the webber i had i have pulled apart and cleaned and put on the car and seems to be running well is a little hard to tell as the car is a 78 there is a exhaust recirculation emissions thing that wont fit with this carbi so i bought a new head and manifold to port and polish and get the head decked. so far i have port and polished most of the intake manifold. and will be doing the head later on.
i got some saas bucket seats that used to be in a kingswood i have fit the drivers side but the stock passenger seat is proving to be hard to get out as the screw at the front will not come undone so is soaking in zep7 so we will see how that goes
also i got a new nardi for my mx5 for my birthday so the golf got the hand me down. i also drilled out a nardi hand brake handle to fit the golf, so the interior is really coming together.
I have cleaned it a fair bit since this picture
also am buying elton's old telidies so hopefully next week ill have wheels on and guards rolled etc.
wil try keep this a little more up to date.
Why are you keeping the 1600 motor when a 1800 is so cheap and makes a big difference, even with a small carby. Add extractors and the power is easily good enough for every-day driving.
Im happy with just the 1600 im restricting myself as im capable of speeding in anything!!!
I had borrowed a 1.8 mk1 for a while with a weber and exaust and a few other nice bits and it was too fast!! Recently I have been forcing meself to drive much more responsibily. Around town and keeping the fun for the hills
But im really not after the power.
Most of my friends drive 2lt or less cars and I can keep up easy in the hills with the 1.6 mx5. Also my girlfriend will be driving it as well and she is the same she can speed in anything she is training to be a pilot and is pretty hooked on speed I feel the 1.6 will be a good handycap.
An engine transplant might come along eventually.
Haven't updated this in a while as I went overseas spent a few months over there and killed my budget for the cars.
But still got a few things done to my golf its club redgoed now and I have swapped in a 1.8 8v.
Still a few things left to sort out.
And further down the line I will be upgrading the brakes thinking of going with mk3 rear drums and front calipers with a 256 mm disk and audi 80 quarto carriersand a 22mm booster seems to be the best option. But at the moment my golf's on hold oh and he got named Clive.
He is on hold as I bought my girlfriend a 1990 mk1 cabriolet for her birthday and needs some love for rwc and only have 2 weeks to get it sorted for redgo transfer. Will post pics of both cars up soon.
I originally made the roof rack for my volvo 360 glt (miss that car so bad)
It's just standard square tube gutter mount roof rack with slats from a futon bed drilled and counter sunk on a drill press to make it faster. If you do it as well differently treat the timber first with something design for out door use like decking. As I need to do that and pulling it apart to do so takes a bit. Also the way the brackets adjust for different roof widths can get in the way jus make sure you adjust them first then measure and drill a very cheap and super handy thing to have.
Hi guys so the cabi got stuck in third gear so I pulled the box and replaced it with a wreckers item but I'd like to re build the old one for my mk1 as its a 5speed is there and build threads on gear boxes? I searched but didn't really find anything.
Also I couldn't find info on the emissions crap I removed the charcoal canister made a big difference as the vac advance works a lot better now.
But the pcv valve from the rocker cover goes around in loops all over the engine bay is there an easy way of removing it and having the oil go straight into the intake manifold. Of is it better to plumb it to the air box?
