  • my new golf :)

so i just sold my mx5 and have decided to get an alfa berlina and as im sure your aware alfas are not very reliable or cheap so i have decided ill have a golf as well as they are much more reliable so i went and picked up a 1978 mk1 4 door for $500
so this is the mx5 that gets picked up on the 28/06/13 then ill be carless so gotta get the golf redgo stat

    and this is the golf.

so far plan is to get it redgoed, clean it up as its pretty ruff get coil overs new wheels or use a set i have, and probably paint it. also sand and oil and fit a set of timber splattered roof racks i have. also i have a few timber nardi intiror parts ill be adding as well.
im sure there will be more but that's the plan for now.

also any one know the size of a stranded steering wheel or have one i can borrow or buy for roadworthy?

that was a well taken photo sadly the dash is pretty stuffed. cleaned the car up lots. degreased the engine bay a bit. and fixed up the bushes in the gear linkage they where all in the wrong spots all the pivots where metal on metal shift feels much better now. been looking under the car to find out what needed to be replaced and am very impressed all the rubbers seem good (tie rod ends steering rack boots drive shaft boots) are all good need a few fuel lines replaced and the carbi needs a tune.

at the moment it wont start since i washed the engine bay. but i also unpluged part of the alarm and that might have killed it as well. ill get it started again tomorrow i hope.

any one wanna tune the carbi for me? i have only owned one other carbi car (1970 beetle) but it ran perfict so i never had to play around with the carbi. in the golf it seems to run fine when its first started till it worms up then as soon as the revs drop it stalls when i drove it home i just drove with my foot on the throttle at all times too keep the revs up. any one have an idea of how to fix this?

Thanks guys it was a great car only down sides with it is its very very small I did manage to fit some epic amount of stuff in it though. Also I am on my green ps now and can have pasangers so would be nice to have a car that acomadated also did atracked some po po atention. So was time to move on. Hopfully ill get some time on Saturday to replace the fuel lines that leak and fix the surfuce rust seems like the roof has been covered in tree sap at some point in the cars life and now has small rust spots growing. And few others in od spots. Ill get some more pictures then as well as at the moment it looks like this is a thread on mx5 s

So I sanded back allmost all the rust and got a can of cheap yellow paint. I have not painted anything yet as ill do it all at once moved my beat up micra out of the way and moved the golf in the garage also managed to sell the micra but I kept the wheels. I could have got more if I stripped it my self but this is an easy way out and still made a tiny bit of money. Also means I have some wheels till I find a set I really like. As I was surprised at how much the stock steelies weigh. So the ones I have at the moment arnt amazing but they will do. Need to find slim wheel bolts any one know what the bolt sizes are?
                      Or where to get them?
Also got it started again the points where wet (oops)
Ang just glad it was not the alarm. Also there was a spare carbi in the boot and the guy who had the car before me said it was the same as the one on the car but apears to be a weber so thats exciting but does look pretty dirty but ill open it up and clean it up hopfully it will mean carbis will make more sence to me after. And make the car run better as it still stalls when ever the revs drop. Any one know of a tread some where of a rebuild thread of a weber with lots of photos

So its been a little while since I have made any progress on the golf I have been trying to organise a trade or sale with my mx5 and all my efforts have fallen though as of yet and moved house and then I have had to house sit for the last month so I have had my hands full. But I did do some work yesterday I put my weber on seems to run fine I think ill need to hook up a mechanical chock though. Sounds so much better than it did before and seems to rev smoother as well. I also need a new intake pipe as the top of the webber is about twice the size of standed. Any one else done this with the stock airbox where did you get your intake pipe from ?
Also swapped over the front indercater lenses as they where cracked and one tail light for the same reason.
Also when I got the car the window winder was missing on the back right I got a replacement winder and the window hardly budges I removed the door card and tryed pushing harder it makes crunchy rusty noises so sprayed all inside the door with tf2 and tryed winding it at the same time I got about 3 inches of movement.
Any ideas also I broke the door handle suround if any one has a spare

I'm glad this car didn't get entered in the ****box rally. I sorted out the cv boots before I sold it to the bloke you bought it off. Should be a good daily/project car. I have heaps of parts if you need anything.
