  • Wait... what might that be in my driveway?? - Project Time

Interior is pretty neat on it, seats are all in one piece dash has had it like usual but i have a replacement.

Only visible rust issue, but can and will be fixed

My Mk2 looks on at the shenanigan's from accross the road.

Tucked away safely for the moment.

Nice work man. I have seen that car and the shell is very straight.

Weld over the bumper holes and opt out of the chrome vs plastic debate

Very nice! If only I had a garage where I could have a project car too.

The car currently has a 1.8 in it on carby with extractors and apparently has some headwork and a cam(this i need to check on) It all runs well just had it fired up, shame its out of rego i wanna take it for a spin so badly...

                  Now... the plan...

First thing i want to hit is the body, im going to go bare metal respray with it so i can hit all rust i can see and what may be hiding beneath. Going to stick with the same colour it currently is. Car only has a few dings and bumps but overall is very straight.

Also body wise i want to take the side strips off and fill in the holes, if anyone has seen the orange mk1 in the December PVW like that except with door handles Debadging the boot and may take out the boot release while im at it. It is a late 76 car so will retain the chrome bumpers which arnt on the car atm, the chrome is all flaking off them but they are pretty much straight. I just want a nice clean look to the car nothing over the top but with a few hits of chrome from the bumpers, chrome flag mirrors and the chrome strip around the grill.

Koni's are currently fitted all round but we may find a set of coilovers on it at some stage soon. Wheels... hmm I would love a set of ATS classics on it in 15's or I am thinking polished P-slots. The other thing I am considering upon further inspection is a mate of mine has a set of bathurst globes in 4x100. I think they would suit the car pretty damn well, never seen a mk1 with them on before either.

The very uncertain thing is engine, I have this voice in my head saying stick with a nice simple 8v but i also have a KR engine in my posession which was destined for my GTI. My favourite idea tbh is slotting a 2L mk3 engine in the car not 100% sure on what sort of job it is but, having a nice reliable engine in the shell of a classic chrome wearing mk1 would be sweet imo.

Sorry for the wall of text, very excited!!
