Usually it's a screw with a spring around it on the side of the carbie, turned by a screwdriver (flat not Phillips) . Do a Google search on whatever model carbie you have to show exactly where it is.

What's the little cylinder thing? Is it on the carbie end or foot pedal end?

ill have a look, its hard to figure it out from the book since they dont have any front views of it.

and its at the carby end, its connected to the accelerator lever thing on the carby.

Post a picture of the cylinder and of the passenger side of the carbie. That's usually the side with the idle adjustment.

What carb are we talking about a Solex or a Weber? Either way, I believe with a stock cable it goes though the ferrel (cylinder thingy) and then the long shaft is retained by a spring held in place by a retaining circlip?

what would everyone think of ssr viennas on a mk1? they look good on mk4/5's not so sure about the old school golfs.

so a parcel from alex g came, 4 b rackets for bumpers, a new rear bumper and 4 of those chrome centre caps.

can someone enlighten me on how to attach the brackets to the bumper ive completely forgotten since i took my others apart. Also, how do i put the hubcaps? on the wheels.

You need clips for the hub caps. Part number is 321601175B. I think I may be able to pick some up over the weekend if you need them! I've got those same caps too, just polished them up recently and they came up a awesomely!

just in wanniassa, getting some new leads and a dizzy cap so that should help it run smoother i hope, and maybe let it idle? it is running on 3 cylinders atm.

Seems like the timing is off, have you got a timing light? Could be a number of things though, I am just stabbing in the dark!

we've got it all timed, havent used a timing light, dont you need idle for a timing light? (please correct me if im wrong)

pulled the carby of the manifold today and about to give it a good clean and try to set it to the specs its meant to be.. can anyone link me to a page telling me how to tune a solex 34 pict 5 carb? can only find ones for a pict 3. (they wouldnt happen to be the same would they?)

so i took the carby out of the car, completely took it apart and cleaned EVERYTHING. im not sure how to set the fast idle screw however have got the bypass screw and air mixture screw sorted to factory specs.

can someone please enlighten me on what this hook and spring looking thing does.



on another note, its funny how many cuts and bruises you find after a day of working on a car that you dont even know happened.
