I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

What head gasket are you running?

Back in the 80's we had heaps of problems with head gaskets on my mate's bored out 1.6 because of the reduced surface area around the cylinders.

Just using the gasket that the head shop gave us, bit of gasket glue and i think it'll be be perfect. it looks like the gasket will fit the head perfectly when i was trial fitting it.

exhaust manifold from racelandus came, $250 shipped so it was a bit of a bargain.

            It's not 200 to 300 that impresses me, it's 300 to 0.

engines in! just have to get everything connected up, and get the radiator hoses from GAP.

started building a false floor the golf today, to be covered in black vinyl with a small sub put in the back. subs really only for a slight kick that accents most music, unlike most kids my age i hate massive set ups that have so much oomph you cant hear the music...

                    Very nice...

Agreed on the use of the Sub... It's there to provide bottom end, not there to create a blast zone...
I'm tempted to fit a 12" sub in my Cabby, but that's only because I have one, and because 4" speakers just have no bass...

the minimal amount of bass provided by the 4" can be somewhat pleasant at times.

i say install the 12", if i had the money i would probably put in a 10" because it gives enough oumph that you can hear the bass and its mild enough that you can still listen without your drums bursting, my mate has a wrx with 2 12" inches and its disgusting to sit in the back.

Yep, 10" would be preferable, and even 8" subs can give some nice 'fill', but I have a brand new Pioneer 12" just sitting under my work bench, right next to my 4x50w Kenwood Amp, and they have been waiting to be installed into something for 5 years...

Also, I visit Wanniassa regurlarly, so you guys will probably see my Mk1 or the wifes Bora down that way fairly regularly...

I've seen plenty of Mk1's that are being rebuilt, but I've only ever seen one other Mk1 on the road in ACT, and that is a baby poo brown with fluro orange wheels out Gungahlin way... So I'm really hanging out for you guys to get them on the road...

I drive around in wanniassa every day mon-fri. Just had time to think about it, does your Mk1 have P's on with a pink P-plate holder hanging around on one of the streets of Wheeler?

And my plan is to see if I can get mine running and in such condition that it can pass rego, then it will be cruising time over weekends.

Theres a sort of grungy yellow mk1 on red wheels that lives around southside, the owner works at repco tuggers and i think he's on this forum somewhere.

hopefully you will only have to wait a little while, im hoping that the major components of the build will be finished by the time i get my p's on the 24th of feb. get the fun stuff done when its regoed
