Probably have some bits Dave. Contrary to what George thinks, I do think you need a choke. You can compromise with the tuning, but it's a PITA, esp in winter.
Yeah J-rad could be right, but I didn't have one for a year and had 0 problems and is that huge red bracket for an alternator or another engine dude hahaha it's huge.
Ahaha, the bracket was for the A/C condenser, yet to take it off as it's holding the alternator in place.
As for the choke, this morning was a bit of a struggle to get it going, but when I get it to hold at 1500-2000rpm for a minute, it's perfect from then on.
Surely has to add somewhere in the region of 100kw
Not really, but after putting the weber on, it had a bit more power, and now this is on, it feels like it's got a bit more..
But still nowhere near a 1.8l, probably due to the fact the 1.6l only got 8.2:1 compression
This brings back so many memories. The 1st Golf I ever had was a 2 tone (black and silver) MK1 nearly 30 years ago that I bought for $1800 for my wife. It was a little beat up but it had no rust back then. I fitted 13" Gemini mags, a 32/36 weber and 2 inch exhaust.
Next step was sports springs and a 22mm rear sway bar that I pinched from the front of a Mazda Capella and made my own mounts. Lower strut brace (home made) and GTI brakes completed the upgrade. That thing was so much fun to drive.
Love how yours is progressing. Keep up the great work.
DOVW 2013... what a day! Car ran and sounded great!
thanks to everyone that made the day heaps of fun, from to morning convoy to the post show antics.
also thanks to all the people who took photos for me
but good things to come!
i just picked up a RV out of a mk2 GTI in really good condition and low km's, and mk2 Radiator
Super stocked for Papa Smurf to finally be getting a new engine with a bit more grunt, and that coupled with a close ratio box and she'll be laughing
i have the ecu and wiring loom for the engine, but u know what.. i think i still want to keep the weber on it. but who knows, i may change my mind haha.
