Well, after those pics were taken, I did indeed have a crack at the clear coat. 1st spray seemed to go on quite well, however with a compressor failure on the next spray I ended up with a huge mess of runs and thick, splodgy crap all over my lovely new paint.
So, fast forward about 7 weeks or so, and I have just had the car dropped back off at my place! Had to basically sand the whole car back, and spray it all again, start to finish, inside and out. So now with 2 full spray jobs under my belt and a car I'm actually happy with, I can tell you I will never ever be doing that again lol. Will post up some pics later, but with a public holiday Wednesday I'm pretty sure I'm going to gut it completely and get cracking on the rebuild, again more pics to follow. Wish me luck!

Wow, I think it's actually been 9 months since I was in here last, holy crap time flies.
The car has been completely gutted, the entire steering/suspension/brakes have been completely rebuilt, not a single nut or bolt hasn't been touched. It's a happy roller now, and with the 020 5 speed just being finished with its rebuild this week I'm looking to finally have a full drivetrain back in the car. Also found more rust in it after paint but nothing exterior so you can't tell we had to repair it after all the paint kafuffel.
I do have a question for all you old schoolers. The flywheel I gained with the 020 has fairly large cracks in it, and has been condemned. Is it a viable solution to run a 210mm flywheel and clutch kit on my 1.6L? Apparently it's fine but anyone with experience in this willing to share would be greatly appreciated!

                          Pix please.

Will there be an issue with the flywheel not being balanced with the crank?

                          Cheers

Geoff Hale is running a 210mm flywheel on a 1600 in his rally car. Ping him a PM.

You wont have any issues with the flywheel. I have run 210mm setups in all my previous mk1's. You should be able to bolt up any old mk3 era flywheel/clutch/pressure plate assembly, as long as you have the right input shaft splines for your gearbox.... there are 2 types, big (mk2 16V and one of the mk3 era 2.0L 8V) and standard. Its a good idea to check your flywheels TDC marking while you are assembling everything to make sure you have a good reference for later, although in my experience, they always match up (I have heard stories to the contrary, but I have never found this myself).

So, I find myself in need of serious assistance.
I have sorted all the engine/gearbox dramas, its all bolted together on my garage floor, awaiting the engine mount to arrive from overseas.
Trouble is, I have ordered the mount insert twice, the first time I received the 74mm diameter one, the second and most recent I got yesterday is the 64mm one. I'm really struggling to understand how difficult it is for someone to send me the correct mount insert, both times I have asked for the 60.4mm one as removed from the car originally. I am aware this mount size is usually from a 1.1 or 1.3l, however as its what came out of the car it's what I have to work with.
I have checked all the part suppliers I can think of, all the ones I have previously used for parts, I googled it and can only find one supplier, however they say a "minimum" 6 weeks until its in stock, then another 2 weeks delivery. Not sure I can wait that long.
Does anyone know how I can get this mount insert quicker/locally, or does anyone have a mount that suits the 64mm insert they would like to part with for cash????
