    No worries mate. It should be a 5 speed. It's a gti box I bought of golfloon ages ago.

    Was it a stock mk1 1.6 that's in it? Shame about those Electrics what a headache!

    Hope your luck improves this weekend.
    Yeah just went out and checked, blew the hazard fuse but still doesn't explain what happened... Thanks thought mate! Bored out 1.7 I've now learnt

Gotti cup wheels are rare as well man. It used to be a diesel with a blown head, bought it off a vw guru down here in Devonport. I owned it for 4 or 5 years till I sold it to a mate years ago.who drove it all the way to Queensland from tassie with out a hitch

    I'll post some photos of when I had her

    Glad to see it's gone to someone who will bring life back into it
    Wow that so cool, small world hey. Thanks for all the info mate, i'd received bits and pieces of it, but now i've got the whole story that's awesome Thanks for the pictures, i'll get some up once i lower it and what not, you reminded me i need to order a front lip! They would have had fun driving it up here with the 4sp! unless of course that was different which i doubt because the same gearknob is still on there

    started a topic Mk1 Black 4dr project

    Mk1 Black 4dr project

    Bought this around 6 months ago, had a VWWatercooled sticker on it and bought it off a mate called Drew, if anyone has info on it's history let me know!

    Black 1980 4dr (closed door respray, used to be blue) 311,XXX ks
    GLD with a 1.6 petrol with unsure ks whacked in (apparent head and cam work, but unsure, diesel loom spliced and diced too by the looks of it to get the petrol motor running, wiring is a nightmare)
    **** brakes (hopefully can afford Gti fronts and mk3 rears with mk3 booster next pay)
    **** suspension, which bottomed out and destroyed the pass. side guard, otherwise the body is straight
    FK Highsports and guard work is happening this weekend though!
    Gotti Cup wheels 15x7J ET25
    Otherwise it's pretty straight, minimal rust and a couple of interior leaks (i know it's raining when it drips from the headliner), but still puts a smile on my face everytime i take it out!

    When I first got it;

    towed it home;

    got it in the garage;

    fixed the brakes and couldn't resist going for a putt up the mountain

    decided to try (key word) tackle the wiring issues;

    then decided that wasn't for me!

    Recieved coils from James at SD (great service highly recommended) Thanks to Gavin who delivered them to me on a Sunday, legend!

    So i've had it for a while, however it has just been sitting in my garage for a good 4-5 months doing not much at all. Bought it with shagged brakes, no indicators/wipers and it was pretty out of tune. Recently got stuck into it after selling my daily, and started with a whole new ignition system (no more 20 minute starting time and conking out when it went into reverse) and a tune, and off to get the electrics fixed it went (no way i was touching that mess). Picked it up this afternoon, all was well, seeing wipers go across the screen made me weirdly excited, on the way back from dinner this happened:

    The electrics completely conked out on me absolutely nothing was working. was broken down on a hill on a main road near the city musgrave road near the normanby about 7pm tonight for those playing at home in Brisbane, and after 20 mins and a couple of cabs almost cleaning it up completely (no hazards available) a top bloke stopped, whacked his hazards on and pushed me over the hill so i could safely stop in a bus stop! 10 mins later tow truck arrives, and will be getting on another one back to the shop which did the work so they can rectify the issue.

    As the pictures show, i haven't done much to it, just trying to get to a (semi)reliable state as it has to be a daily. after suspension and brakes i'll leave it for a while, might track down some roof racks for the bike, and look at some sportier seats if there's any around? Fun little car, and while it's got it's problems, i love it! family and friends think i'm mad but it's such a fun little car.

    Will keep you guys posted on how it all goes, first time tinkering with a car like this, should be a bit of fun, a steep learning curve, and i have a feeling tonights tow truck definitely won't be the last hahaha
