Cleaning it is a head**** lol its so time consuming and straining. Its not hard to do it all man - money i dont have, knowledge and tools i gather as i go. If i dont know something, i research and ask alot of people. Its not as hard as most think. As for colour its doing to be white dude

Its nothing special, but i like every little detail to count

Also managed to paint the underside of the car with etch primer. First time ive used compressor and gun, and actually think i did pretty well. Might consider spraying the actual colour in the interior to save some money and spend to spend on something else. Will be getting a tub of bitumen and painting the entire chassis/underside with a few thick coates.

Looking good man. Seen your other car around in the area. If you're on a budget, and you ever find yourself needing to de-rust smaller parts (carby's, rare fittings etc.) that are irreplaceable or expensive use Metal Rescue.
I use it for my classic VMX bikes and even places where i cant get to, like the fuel tank. beauty of it is you can even re-use it.
Doesn't affect rubber seals either. Never considered using anyhitng else.
Because it's an american company, the only place i found that import it to Aus is action corrosion.
Metal Rescue | Rust Removal | Rust Elimination
The company >>> Action Corrosion Pty Ltd,located at Tweed Heads NSW,supplies Metal Rescue to Australians.

Step 2: Rinse our clean off excess rust

)
Step 4: Soak in metal rescue between 5min - 24hrs

Hello hello all .... I havnt completly abandoned my golfie. I did buy a Honda a while back and the bug has bit me, bigger engine, wheels, coils etc etc. Really good daily and it is fantastic fun on the track - BUT i still have huge plans for this baby.
I have recently started my career job and as a young bloke i do a crap load of work to make it to the top, long hours, poor pay, hard work etc. I've also saved all year to do a Euro trip so my money is very damn limited. As if all that wasnt enough, we have just relocated houses 2 weeks ago so everythings messed up right now. ........... anyway everytime i past the swallowtail i get tingles.
Much bigger garage, a bit more money as i support myself now, and the long cold boring winter nights to motivate me. Im hoping this thing takes off this winter after i settle down at home! A very important route I'm choosing is to slow down the build and buying all the parts i intend to fit into the car, to make sure everything fits perfect before paint, time will tell though.
Took 5 mates to lift it, and put in on the tiny truck hahaha. Good times!

If this turns out anything like your old one mate it'll be breathtaking!
So glad you're still keen to finish this beast. Best of luck George

Thanks for all the kind words guys, this will definately be something great, and i have plenty of ideas lurking in my head.
My absolutely ideal goal is have it finished within a few years, and ship it over to EU for the worthersee tour.
Anyway I am planning on doing a complete engine bay shave, including brakes. I am looking at this Wilwood single pedal with dual small M/Cs. I think this will work perfectly, as i just have to weld on mounting tabs/brackets to sit it in. I know a few of the guys have done this before me, any insight?

Also what kind of M/C sizes am i looking at getting. Will be running GTI carriers and brakes at front, with mk3/cordoba drums at rear so do i need a 60/40 distribution or?- Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold

Why not get Mk3 discs at the back, they look so much more smexier than drums.Originally posted by GeorgeMK1 View PostWill be running GTI carriers and brakes at front, with mk3/cordoba drums at rear so do i need a 60/40 distribution or?-'75 Passat TS

Just think that i will have much more hassle with the discs, and the mk3 drums will be more than sufficient.Originally posted by huss View PostWhy not get Mk3 discs at the back, they look so much more smexier than drums.
I have been doing tons of research and found a few pics of which way i would prefer to go. Out of all the solutions, i think the best/safest/easiest would be for me to buy the Wilwood pedal and then make a small cage/brackets to sit it in the cabin. Ideas?
I really like what's been done here, but his Tig skills surpass me by miles, so im quite scared to do this.

So im thinking of adding this, its reasonably cheap. Just scared that the pedal is longer than the mk1 pedals which will look odd and create issues with the reservoirs. Any one used the wilwood pedal box's?
