up in your neck of the woods preen i would put a new set of glow plugs in it - that will help the cold starts a lot. also, if your running bio you can afford to advance the timing a little to improve the starting and also power and economy. a good mod for the stock glow circuit is to swap out the fuse and fuse holder for a 40A circuit breaker from supercheap auto.

Yes I was thinking a NEW set of plugs might be in order. Dennis did a glow plug bypass with a bigger relay and bigger wiring to reduce the voltage drop. He said he timed the pump from the Haynes manual with a dial indicator when he put it together (i'm not sure of the specifics because i've never done it). It runs really well and it's EDIT- NOT smokey when it warms up..

I'll have to come for a run up your way when I get the chance and see what you reckon. I'm considering a blower setup later down the track when I finish the 16v if I don't sell the car..

Chris. Bio is harder to start in the cold,You probably need to activate the glow plugs for 25-30 seconds when it is below 0 deg.I am assuming that you are using the advancer when you start.(It probably wont start at all if you werent) When you get it on diesel it will start much easier.

I haven't had any trouble starting it.. It's just very smokey when it's really cold (I just realised I said it's smoking when it warms up.. So i've edited that). I've been using the advancer and warming the plugs for 20-30 seconds as you said. I'll be interested to see the difference when I get back to normal diesel.. I'm also going to try some 2-stroke in it. It definitely made a difference to the Caddy and I still have a whole box of Yamalube i'll never use...

Chris . The Bio always lets off large clouds of blue smoke when first started in cold weather,it even did that in my 307 Pug Common Rail diesel. Interestingly on the road when the engine is warm it never smokes even under extreme load. The other problem with Bio is when it gets down much below 0 deg it can gel and it is hard to get it to go through the filter. In really cold weather around 5% unleaded ups the Cetane rating and helps the fuel to stay liquid.

Interesting.

I did notice that when I glowed the plugs for longer the smoke on start up was reduced. Not really a problem anyway (well, for me.. Haha).

Other than that it hasn't missed a beat so far. Haven't filled it up yet. Going to try some 2 stroke in the fuel when I do.
