  • Preen's Mk1 GLD

    Hey guys.

Most of you would have at least some idea that I was looking at Dennis' GLD from the For Sale section..

Well, long story short, I bought it.

I'll get more pics of it, but that's the one I took (that some of you saw on FB) with my phone yesterday when I picked it up.

Hasn't missed a beat. No visual rust (yet to check the floors), drives great and body is really tight. It's running on Vege oil so it smells like you're cooking a phat BBQ when running. haha!

Plans? None. Clean it up and drive it.

I've done a little tinkering already..

-First up the steering wheel wasn't straight. So i've sorted that out.
-The hatch was rattling so I adjusted the latch pin and tightened that up.
-It has a nice Pioneer CD player, but standard crappy speakers in the rear parcel shelf sides. I pulled them out and replaced them with another set of sides that had speaker holes cut in them already. I fitted a set of JVC 6.5 inch 4 way splits I've got lying around from a while ago. Radio= 100% better!
    -Washed it.

Next up, vacuum, full interior detail and a polish!

Edit: Oh, I also have a special steering wheel coming for it.

    So stoked you bought this.

I am keen as **** for a GLD for a daily. If this was around the corner from me like it was for you, it would be mine!

You're still young enough to lower it further than is practical. Slammed economic daily FTW!

So disappointed I didn't get onto Dennis about this a few days earlier...looks radical, and i'm now rather jealous!

Good luck with it Chris. I'm sure she'll be an excellent daily.

Lovely little (fish and chip) oil burner there
Looks exactly like revnit's car, when he first got it too.

I should mention that the engine only has 20k on it so it's like new and performs rather well..

Yeah i'm pretty satisfied too. Should be a good daily. My mother is actually keen to take it off me for a daily if i don't use it! She used to drive my other Mk1 all the time back in the day when I was on my P's.

Hahaha.. I would like to lower it. I'll put the springs out of my 16v in it when I get coils for it. It rides pretty damn nice. Bit of a boat though.

Cheers, Tristan. I'm pretty happy with it.

Are you sure you don't want to build a supercharged VR6 4motion MK1?
