  • yeah i bought a mk3 pump...i just assumed it was going to be that because it was on the mk3 1.8 and they look so similar, but i think the previous owner put the mk1 pump on instead...yeah i think i will try and source an earlier pump (mk1/mk2)...hope these are easy to come by...would save me a lot of trouble.

    • I know exactly where a new mk2 water pump is. I left one down at Camden GTI. prolly can use your original pulley.

      Also, don't mk3s run serpentine belts and golf 1/2 run V belts?

        thanks man, any chance i can get my hands on it before the weekend?

        not sure to be honest, i have never dealt with water pumps before, sort of learning it all as i go...

        • Should replace the o-ring gasket while your at it.

            Not on the waterpump. They are all v belts.
            THe Mk3 ones have a different offsett and bolt spacing to the Mk1 ones.
            There are untold pulleys available with different offsets.
            If you measure up what you need, pulleywise, and give us specs, I`m happy to look for one for you.

              yeah i'm replacing most of the gaskets on the bottom end..pulleys...coolant flange etc

              • problem solved...bought a complete new original mk1 water pump/housing & thermostat/seals

                so now the motor has had a top end vrs kit and bottom end has all new gaskets/rings and complete new water pump...fingers crossed its all worth it later on when i don't have little issues popping up...

                • got the engine basically ready to for next weekend...just have to finish up a few things...connect hoses etc and find a different pulley...other than that its all looking good for this weekend
