Its a curious car.
UK and euro spec big tails, like on this car, are different to South African Taillights. The S.A ones are longer.
Its a late model, post 81 dash, but the car should have holes for the bumper overriders and plastic bumpers.
For sure someone could have put chrome bars on it, but where are the holes?
Can you show us a pic of the engine, so we can see if it actually is a 1.3?
I`m wondering if it is an earlier car with a rear beaver and big lights welded in at some stage.
Also show us a pic of any compliance plates, should be on the scuttle pannel, or rad support panel.

Just noticed it has tow hooks, so its definately a later Mk1.
Now I`m even more confused.

Yup, i think Jarrad is on the money. S.A heavy duty wheels.
And I dont think they are standard UK spec rear taillights.
Plus the interior is non UK and non aussie spec.
I reckon its an early S.A import.
