little heads up, my inserts discolor a lot, best thing for it is a white leather paint to refresh them. will be interested to know if they discolor as much when they are silconed down. they blead the rubber color through because the move going around corners and stuff, so being held down they might not.

thanks man, i want to lower it to similar high as yours. the insterts aren't brand new so they are a bit discoloured already im def going to have to use that leather polish.i the bought wheels off dubdan from here. they were on ebay but he pulled them off for me haha once the coilovers go in and the black sills below the doors are colour coded its just going to keep some retro love then im just going to enjoy it. maybe build a 1.6 for it someday.

I've never seen an australian delivered car with that interior (dash, seats, and door cars), nor did we ever get big taillights. Those steel wheels, as Pete Jones found out, and South African Mk 1 standard steelies, they're more heavy duty than our ones, to cope with poorer road conditions in SA. Also mostly got the 1.6's in aust delivered cars (apparently there were a few very early cars that came with 1.1's), that's if it is a factory 1.1. I don't know who would retro fit a 1.1 in a car that came with a 1.6 (if it was aus del, it'd most probably have a 1.5D or 1.6P)
Oh, and the instrument cluster also is different to the ones that we got.

I've also never heard of an australian delivered mk 1 that was later than 1980 (and it was a diesel at that too)

Anyway, they're my reasons. I'm very curious about this car actually, all very interesting!

Im very curios as well, i had a closer look at it. I doubt it is from S.A. the dash is most likely taken out of a convertible, atleast thats what i think. As for the 1.1L that could possibly be imported from S.A as i remember my dad had a 1.3L and at one stage a 1.1L. Perhaps it was just put together from various parts, how ever it was put together, its extremely neat!!!

                    Nice pics there.

IMO, remove the tint, and get a small lip spoiler. (an lower, but that was a given )

Very cool car! Great pics too.
Think the tint should go, just my opinion however. Wheels look good, should have a kind of red theme going on - things like red pool ball as a gear knob. Cream + red = very retro

Haha Yer tint is staying. I love the bluey purple hue. Also I have been thinking the same thing but I don't want it to get tacky. I think the next few accessories to buy are venetians, an antenna ball and some stickers then i'm not sure from there. But the coilovers and colour coding the door sills will be done first

mollins first mk1 was a '81 or '82 from South Africa. It was a 4 door, big taillights, later wiring loom and dash (cabrio style) and came here with a 1.3L engine (But this was swapped for a 1.8 when he got it). It had the early cabrio or GLI style seats (with some mild bolsters) and the fancy door pulls with tweed fabric that you see in the cabrios too.

His car also had a compliance plate on it, strangely.

It was also fitted with reflectors on the rear bumper.... AND the black sills under the doors!
