to cure boredem i decieded to make a thread about my new golf.

i bought it last tuesday, on my 21st birthday and needless to say i was more excited about picking it up then my actual birth day.

    its a 1981 ls 4dr, with a 1.1 lt conversion lol,
the story with it is, a guy restored it (new paint and motor) for his daughter who didnt want it. the girl i bought it off owned it for 3 months but then decieded to go back to veitnam to help orphans and thats where my story staarts off.

    photos

i also own a r31 skyline which once i sell will make way for some serious pimping of the old thing.
today i bought some freshly power coated steelies with whitewall inserts(photos when its light)
and in the near future i want to lower it on coilovers and colour code the lower door sills.
then later i want to buy venetians and other cool odds and ends to finish off the retro look.

And you can think about that another way, he's driving it so that she can help orphans in Vietnam; what a kind soul.

EDIT: Also, it looks like the old man did quite a restoration on the car, really neat and tidy, pity she didn't like it.

Nice pick up. looks super clean, which makes for a great start to a project!

Dare I say this is actually a South African import?

WOOOOOW very very clean!! great find man. i love the white walls, as soon as your lower it, the look will change completely

Jarred what makes you say its South African, the only thing that i can see is that large tail lights at the back and thats about it. This grill is facing in, the S.A ones have the grill and face facing outwards. They also have a sort of L curve just behing the rear windows. (lived in S.A for a long time)

You're right George, the Citi golfs do have that grill, and the L pressing in the C pillar. But granted (if it actually is) an 81 model, it would still be a mk 1, not a citi golf. (based on the mk1 but slightly moderised & the car that's very popular in SA till this day)

I've never seen an australian delivered car with that interior (dash, seats, and door cars), nor did we ever get big taillights. Those steel wheels, as Pete Jones found out, and South African Mk 1 standard steelies, they're more heavy duty than our ones, to cope with poorer road conditions in SA. Also mostly got the 1.6's in aust delivered cars (apparently there were a few very early cars that came with 1.1's), that's if it is a factory 1.1. I don't know who would retro fit a 1.1 in a car that came with a 1.6 (if it was aus del, it'd most probably have a 1.5D or 1.6P)
Oh, and the instrument cluster also is different to the ones that we got.

I've also never heard of an australian delivered mk 1 that was later than 1980 (and it was a diesel at that too)

Anyway, they're my reasons. I'm very curious about this car actually, all very interesting!

Yah its def an 81. It doesn't have any import compliance plates or anything tho. Once the skyline gets sold its coppin some major low.
