got about taking the motor apart to send to rams head, looks so nice and clean im wondering why.it was fully rebuilt before i bought (valves cut and a cast clean)it and hasnt turned a stroke, but for the numbers and style of motor i am building i need an serious head job and valve treatment, looking to the pistons which have been fitted with gapless seals, there are marking on the top just wondering if any one can make sense of them??

i presume the middle line is manufure date and the top engine years?? but the bottom line is a little interesting, maybe brand?? how can i check the size, is it as easy as measuring the bore???
gee the schrick pan make standing the bottom end up easy

81mm is standard bore. So 81 may be the piston size. The "bore size" is actually the piston size. The bore will be slightly larger (bore clearance etc, you know). Just measure the bore with a set of vernier calipers at the top. That will tell you what bore size it is. The standard sizes go from 81mm and up in 0.5mm increments to 83mm.
If the engine was reconditioned i'd be surprised if it was standard bore, however it may have not done a lot of work before reconditioning.
i am still running n/a yes, turns out the bore size is 82mm so could be 81 piston
40 thou piston to bore clearance? You'd be getting some serious piston slap and blow by! Our Nitro engine running CP forged blower pistons has 12 thou, and it's an inch larger bore!
I'm not sure what the "81" means, but its not your piston size.
