Ok so this is the happs. Basically im going to remove all rust, re paint the golf white, and take all interior, seats, roof lining, dash, door cards, sound system, and brakes and other little bits from the orange golf, and put it in the white golf. Im going to be using the rego frm the orange golf on the white one, but dont want to say anymore on a public forum LOL. This is going to be the end of this thread, as the orange golf has lived its little life, but with the slight body damage to the rear, i dont feel its worth me repairing it, seeing as i have the white one now.

Im going to start up a new thread, and i guess thats it for this thread. Thanks to everyone who helped me in my 4 year journey with this lovely little orange car. I appreciate all the time and support people have given me, as i was only 15 when i got this car, i didnt know much to begin with. Im still very young, and have a lot to learn haha

I didn't actually build it. My brother used to own it and the 2E was fitted by Andrew Robinson Auto I know the car and the setup pretty well, though, provided it hasn't been frigged with *too* much!!

Got a fair bit of work ahead of me ...

I'm happy to duck out one Sunday and give you a hand, George. It looks like there's not even a fuse box at this stage! That engine was wired up by splicing the complete Mk3 loom into the Mk1 electrics, from memory. It's not the best way of doing things at all, but it was fitted on a budget at the time so the car could be sold. It always felt underpowered and I suspect this is because the timing was retarded, as no knock control etc was wired up. This could never be checked previously as there was no OBD port.

You would be far better off to go and buy a complete Mk3 loom (whole car) and fuse box and lose the Mk1 electrics for good. This way, you can have the amazing feeling of a Mk1 that starts and runs first time, every time and has OBD

More importantly, where is the wiring at in general - if you plug the fuse box up, can you get power to the engine bay terminals and/or does the fuel pump prime? Something else I just remembered with this car is that the pump stays running with the ignition on, so this needs fixing as well!

I assume you're spending your public holiday working on it today :p
