  • When the hatch won't stay open, but it won't actually shut properly either (dodgy lock that plays up in cold/damp weather).

When you get in the car after it's been parked a few hours and the windscreen is fogged up on the inside.

When on a cold, wet afternoon evening you can't see where you are going properly as the windsheild has fogged up and the you can't adjust the heat to blow air on said windsheild.

    • You know you drive a mk1 when youve had it towed at least twice

You know you drive a mk1 when the clutch cable breaks around a corner and you manage to get into 2nd gear. Then you hope you catch all the trafficlights green home. but you catch one set red and you have to stop, behind you is a learner driver chick and her mum. You have to get going when it turns green but can no way get into first again without a clutch. they get out help you push it out to the nearest carpark and she asks are you a student or something? i say no not anymore, she's like why are you driving such an old car, im like.. its a hobby.

You know you drive a mk1 when you press the brake and the left hand headlight comes on also.

        • When you get it back after leaving it at a friends place for a few weeks to get some welding done and just sitting in it, rolling it off the trailer with only the drivers seat inside and wires hanging everywhere and it feels like an old pair of shoes that you haven't worn for ages. You know the type of shoes - worn out, rough around the edges, hated by your girlfriend but so comfortable that you never want to throw them out.

                          • To jack up the car with a trolley jack you need to drive it up on a few bits of wood so the jack fits under the lifting points.
