Yup, there was no dig intended at you Jimmy. You saved the day by fixing up the fuel pump so it could drive onto a truck for transport.

Good work as usual from JMac.

I reckon most of the issues were caused by it sitting around for a year and a half and by people taking trim and other bits off and not understanding how they went back on.

I think Mik will get it pretty sweet in the end, if he can only get rid of the damn steelies.

I found the leak in the headlining!

Lucky it is not as bad as I thought, what is happening the way the headlining is attached it seems to be wicking moisture around through the underside of the seal and into the car. I am going to work out how to make a connection of the headlining to the surround without there being a moisture path for the water to get under the seal. This may be harder that I first imagine.

Fingers crossed that will sort it as with the headlining removed that resolves the leak.

White wheels are back on and have been for a week or so. I have to say that they have grown on me and now that the car and I are more comfortable with each other I am not so bothered by them.

I am having trouble cranking the car over. I have replaced the starter for a known good one, but it has the same issue. When I have the battery fully charged off the charger it will throw reasonably well for a few days but then it really struggles to crank.

Pete Jones suggested a diesel mk1 or a mk3 starter to replace for the one I have, is this a common swap and should it assist in winding the engine over? It shouldn't sound like the battery is always flat when it isn't.

I have ordered a few bits and bobs from various parts and they should all come together soon, but not before this weekend. Looking forward to putting things back together. Then for a really rigorous clean in and out.

I reckon it has a bad earth which is why it is not cranking Mik.
Is there an earth from a bolt of the starter to the earth of the battery?
It was a thick blue one.
Also a good earth from the battery to the car.
I had about 4 earths on that car, as you removed them, it ran worse and got harder to start.
Glad you put the white wheels back on, I reckon they go great with the green.

                Argh, another missing piece...

I have a good earth (checked and cleaned it the other day) from the battery to body, battery to gearbox mount and then from that mount to the starter. There is no direct connection from the negative terminal to the starter, I'll investigate that.

And it should have either a diesel or Mk3 starter too mate.

I'd say if the earth has been missing since it came back from interstate that was why it was hard to start at your shop too.

While I have your attention Matt - do you know what cam is in the car? I was guessing it was a standard 16V one, but not too sure.

I dug out a set of 16v KR cams today. I also bought a new starter but in the end it was only the solenoid...

Quickly give it an earth with a set of jump leads and see if it helps first incase it is something else, at least then you will quickly know without waiting to see if it is to have no result. Most likely will be a bad earth but good set of jumpers will soon verify that. You could also use a current clamp to see what the starter was drawing whilst trying to crank too and at the same time making sure you have 12v at the solenoid when doing so.

Yeah we jumped it a few times.
I thinkit has the KR Cams, but may be running an exhaust cam as an intake too, for more agressive power. Cant remember it was a while ago.

Thanks everyone. I am off today to buy some jumper leads then to test and then arrange for an earth strap if it works any better. The battery has 540CCA so I am pretty sure that it will cope.

In a little while I am thinking of taking the intake off to clean it inside and out and at that time I will possibly pull the rocker cover off to see if the cams can be easily identified. I am not sure how hard that is to do without disassembly.

Really starting to enjoy the car more.

So I added the jumper leads directly on to the starter from the neg terminal and it did nothing.

Here is what she sounds like, and also did with the other starter that was originally on it...

                              Here is the wiring;

                              I'll try another battery.

What is the deal when the alternator light does not light up on the dash at all any more?

Thats a really nice earth setup you have there, I might have to do something like that on mine.
