Spent 2 days putting the door rubbers and glass back in. They shut with a solid noise and by swopping the rubbes from the right side to the left side, I ended up with a cal look for a fraction of the cost

I`m gonna run a 1.8 16v, as I then don`t need to get the car engineered.

I have a beauty sitting here, just gotta finish polishing and painting and then i`ll put her in. Next pics will show an engine in the car.....

I dunno about that mate, there is some stiff competition. I`d be happy with a running car at the mo.

Finally managed to do some work on my 16v project this weekend.
Engine is coming together fast. Cleaned the manifolds and put them on today.
Waiting for a clutch and then I`m gonna put it in the car.

Started cleaning the old exhaust manifold as was struck by the number of ugly extra bolts and protuberances. Got the grinder out and smoothed it a bit.
Then a paint to make it look neat.

            Before

            After

Where do you find the time?

Hi mate. Your car is another that kicks paople in the pants and makes them want to get out there and WORK. Can't believe that I hadn't seen your thread 'til now. I love that its a four door and the colour rocks.
I'm thinking of making a pilgrimage up to Sydney in the next two to three weeks to raid your stocks of Mk1 parts but will be sure to check the inventory well in advance.
Keep up the great work mate.

Thanks man, hope to see you soon. The car is Oak Green, which was a limited edition colour for the Mk2 16v. Therein lies a clue to the engine of my beast, to the well informed

I looked for a straight rust free shell for ages and all the three doors were flogged or rusty. This car has 70,000kms and no rust. I can live with the extra doors.

So its been a busy weekend.
Put all new gaskets on the gearbox and oil contol seals.
And swopped the hubs to let me use the 20 driveshafts that I have here.
Gave it a bit of paint and a new bush kit too.

My new clutch kit arrived last week, so I bolted that to the engine and sorted out the pulleys and belts and whacked the alternator on. I cut the alternator bracket in half as it is so heavy.

Then I bolted the engine and box together and stuffed them in the car.

I usually drop motors in from the top, but the whole engine bay has been resprayed and is very shiny, so I put this one in from below! I`d leave the alternator off next time!

Close of play today is the two side engine mounts done up and the car has an engine for the first time in 2 years!

                                Next is wiring.
