Have you asked steve about his set of RS - what about the mini guy (Stu?) they both bought sets off me and might want to sell

Yep, will probably do a trial run with Steve's wheels, at the very least. Stumpy has plans for his wheels.

So, I got something very cool in the mail today...

This has solved some questions and raised others.

Firstly, looks like the twin grille configuration is how the car left the factory. It also appears as though the interior fabric has been changed at some stage, which I'd kind of already guessed at, so good to have this confirmed.

However, the surprise is the documentation stating the car left the factory with a sunroof. I'd love to know when that was removed (presumably due to being a rust trap).

The best part, though, haha, matching numbers - the chassis and engine numbers are correct.

Oddly, this had to be confirmed on a separate piece of paper, due to privacy reasons apparently.

          That is pretty cool.

I would consider that sunroof delete to be a bit of intrigue - no doubt you will locate all of the previous owners and find where it happened along the line and the invoice for the work!

          Matching numbers FTW!

Liam I can tell you from now that Matt removed the sunroof due to the amount of rust that was in there and top a another roof on top that was grafted!

Thanks Steve. That sounds fair enough. From what I have seen sunroofs on Mk1s can be a fast route to pain, haha.

Yup, I had the sunroof removed and a new roof grafted in. The only rust in the car was where the original sunroof had filled up with water and rusted out.

Cool to see its birth certificate and verify that the numbers are correct though.

And haha told you it needed the 4 lamp grille

Here are some ideas lifted from this page on option codes:

                    (5)89 Fuel-Injected Engine, 1.8L / 82KW

                    482 Light-Alloy Wheels, 5½J x 13 ET 38

The M code I think is trim based on this snippet.

M948 Quiet Insulation Package (C/L only)
Complete sound insulation, includes additional insulation on luggage compartment floor, insulation on rear wheel-housing with fleece carpeting, additional insulation under rear seat, additional fleece carpeting in luggage compartment.
                    Thoughts?

                        Hey mate,

What info did you need to give VW to send you out that info? Did you need proof of ownership and so on or just the vin number?

                        Cheers

I just sent the VIN and engine number, along with €35.

I'm a bit bummed that the car was in a workshop waiting for a new part on its 30th birthday, though.

Couldn't make it to the Nats today, so I took some pics instead.

Car is starting okay now thanks to a new distributor, but it is running like crap. It would appear the timing is rooted.
