Great work volksee. I had been following your tarmac tread and was excited to see targa west on tv. Unfortunately I only caught the last 15min of the program. I was on the edge of my seat hanging out to see the Mk1 footage but only saw it at the end taking a left hand corner in true Mk1 style but with the event standings plasted over the screen.

anyways Great job and well done!!! you make us VW drivers even more proud.

look forward to seeing more dub competition action.

I remember reading somewhere that the homologated mk1 ran the 1600cc 16v in France some time ago... I assume you've got those papers.
Dom's got a workshop manual in french for the oettinger 16s motor.

Yeah Waterboys dad Bruce used to race a mk1 1600 16v hence my question as obviously an 1800 KR doesn't really comply.

it certainly does if you run in C3 under the homologation rulings in the cam manual of motorsport, just have to be prepared to mix it with porsche 911 carrera RS's

Evorobin, under Cams C2 rulings you can run a motor plus 10% capacity so the 1600CC plus 10% is 1760CC or there abouts, once i deck hieght the block and put higher compression piston in I will be close to this mark hence the reason for using a 1800 KR. Yeah Lima i've read all about the Golf 16S which is why i tracked down it's paperwork so i can up the power of the mk1 a little more

ha ha ha nah mate not upset just trying to be as accurate with info as i can so if others choose to follow this path i will have done the hard work for them. Cams is really pandantic on their rules and basically only want stock golfs (complete with bloody solex carb) competing which means you have to mix it with RS recreation porsches. Why the hell would we compete if we are against RS porsches in a stock golf, there is no chance of having fun when you are getting flogged hence the reason why i'm putting so much work into getting higher powered mk1's eligable with 16 valvers to compete in classic motorsport.

Volksee check out the AASA events mate, one of the reasons I am running in the Australian Tarmac Championship with Buller, Wrest Point, Lake Mtn and Targa Tas is that the AASA rules are a lot more realistic and open compared to the CAMS M2C2 rules I have to run to in the couple of events that are still CAMS.

I even heard a rumour that Targa West was changing over to AASA and might be included in the championship next year.

                    Cheers Al

That would be sweet, I could do a heap more mods under AASA rulings and the car would be so much more competitive as long as the budget will stretch that far

Well after a long break from racing i caught up with my mate Jamie who used to rally his golf before onselling her and he decided to junk all his spares. You guessed it i got a parts bonanza to use as rally spares

5 spare mk1 fuse boxes and two complete wiring harnesses and a spare set of tail lights

Spare struts with uprated springs and shocks and clutch

6 boxes of spares including front end trim, coils, mirrors, lights, manifolds, engine mounts, belts, waterpumps etc

just a couple of spare rally wheels all with hub adaptors for the mk1

                        Early VW motorsport wheel

SAAS wheel, this will be recovered to as new

                        Formuling wheel

                        Mazdaspeed wheel

more parts to come, looks like christmas in my workshop

well looks like the Volksee is making the news these days, finally a Mk1 golf getting coverage in a national motorsport magazine. Extremely happy with this considering 100 cars were entered and they published only 10 photos of the rally and we bloody made it in. The old golfs attitude i think one it many fans from the public and press alike

and look at that, the Volksee in full attack

                                Hi,
Good result. What did the Golf weigh in at? Also how much extra does a stock 4 door weigh than a 2-door? Also what is difference between competition classic and challenge classic classes? Cheers.
