Anchor Point For Baby Seat?

I am hoping someone may be able to help...

Looking to put my baby seat in a new MK I 1990 convertible I have just secured (finally!! and thanks to Golf Loon Matt too!!) Pics will follow I promise.

Is there an anchor point? If not, who can fit these? How safe would it be on an older car like this?

Also, new wheels? What do I need to be searching for? What are the wheel specs on a Mk I 1990 Cab?

I dont know these cars specifically but check out the rear of the back seats, the floor behind the back seats.
If there are none, secure one (can but from autobarn etc.) to a spot on the floor behind the back seat. Reinforce the hole with some steel plate, use a high tensile bolt and put a large panel washer on both sides - that all should easily prevent the bolt from pulling through. Use a good spring or lock washer on the bolt.

I have just fitted 2 of these, and as I was looking for a secure position to the chassis, I chose the bumper fixing bolt closest to the back seat. Use the supplied washers and spacers that come with the anchor points, with the bumper bolt, which in my case was long enough.
The other option could be to fix into the rail behind the back seat, but you would need a long bolt and would need to be able to get under the car to fit a washer and nut to the underside.

Do you have the original owners book & any Aust. supplement?
I had an issue with my Aust delivered '80 mk1 when having an inspection to have a defect notice removed. Long story short, the child restraint anchor point for this model is concealed in the headlining. Now I know that in a cabrio it won't be there, but I reckon there must be provision for a couple somewhere. My '82 private import doesn't have any mounting where my '80 Aust delivered does.

The anchor points in my 93 Mk1 Cabrio is on the cross member behind the rear seat. Check if there are some bolt holes. Our cabrio has two of them, one for each side of the rear seat. Otherwise it might need to be installed professionally.

the cabriolets did not come with the 3 point fittings in the rear in the U.K.
Not sure in Aus.

However they did in the U.S.A.

All Australian delivered cars after 1976 (or there abouts) were required to have a child restraint points as standard thanks to the ADR. In different vehicles there were bolts welded to the roof, in others they added a bar behind the seats.

As far as a I know private imports were technically required to be "updated" to include these mounting points, but many got through the checking.

(Lets not point out that the Euro standard exceeds the Aussie standard but you can't use those in Australia because they don't meet a 35 year old requirement...)

Thanks for the Info. I have (since posting) managed to locate 2 x anchor points behind the back seat, and using one of these points and the lap belt through the bottom of the seat seems to work really well. There is no movement in the seat, only minor issue is the parcel try catching slightly on the top end of the baby seat harness clip. No damage caused, just a little 'thump'!
